Word spreads widely online that after the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps“, there are plans for the Silver Surfer to appear in several Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions, potentially including his own standalone film.
The rumor originates from tipster Daniel RPK, however, it’s intriguing that he doesn’t specify which Silver Surfer he’s referring to.
Note: Spoilers follow
Norrin Radd will be the MCU’s Silver Surfer
Based on information from my trusted Comic-Con sources, it appears that if the Silver Surfer is to appear in several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, it won’t be the female Silver Surfer portrayed by Julia Garner in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Instead, it will likely be the original character, Norrin Radd.
It seems that, just like the previous update on Daredevil: Born Again, I’ve heard The Fantastic Four: First Steps has undergone a revamp as well.
End of the M She U is here
Despite my efforts to stay hopeful, it seems that The Fantastic Four: First Steps might signal the conclusion of the “Marvel Studios Universe” as we know it.
Based on the data I’ve gathered and rumors circulating in Hollywood, it seems that Disney might be shifting away from its progressive stance.
It’s been revealed that Bob Iger held a fruitful discussion with President Trump regarding Disney’s significant ongoing investments within the U.S.
M She U has been a massive fail
It’s common knowledge that the M She U has struggled to thrive. Sadly, the intended audience didn’t turn up for any of the Disney+ MCU series, and this was particularly evident with The Marvels, whose poor performance sent a powerful, undeniable message.
More recently, I watched both “Captain America: Brave New World” (as confirmed by Disney) and “Thunderbolts,” the latter continuing with female-led characters. However, it appears that neither film has been performing as well as expected.
It appears that Disney is experiencing significant financial losses with their Marvel and Star Wars projects due to a low viewership on Disney+. Furthermore, it’s estimated that over 65% of Marvel and Star Wars enthusiasts are not watching these projects in cinemas.
It appears that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” could mark the conclusion of the Marvel Universe (MU) in its current form, with Julia Garner portraying the female version of Silver Surfer for only one appearance.
MCU reboot incoming
After “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, the Russo brothers are planning to revamp the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Avengers: Endgame” and “Secret Wars”.
Will still have strong female characters
Now the end of the M She U doesn’t mean there will be no female Marvel characters.
Instead, Feige is planning to introduce the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Endgame. Notably, these new stories will highlight powerful female characters.
What I’m expressing is simply this: I’m crossing my fingers that Feige will avoid changing the genders of roles (the elimination of Taskmaster suggests some changes may be on the horizon) and steer clear of having characters deliver lengthy speeches.
MCU going to space
It seems like after the “Secret Wars,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is taking a significant leap into space, a plan that was initially in place before James Gunn’s departure from Marvel. Initially, Gunn was intended to oversee the “Marvel Cosmic Universe.
There have been whispers about an upcoming movie called The Annihilators, and it was previously announced that Nova would stream on Disney+ with a plot likened to Star Trek combined with Battlestar Galactica. Now, there are rumors circulating about Silver Surfer as well.
It seems that Feige might be introducing the antagonist Annihilus from Fantastic Four, who could potentially serve as the main villain. There’s a possibility he’s considering an adaptation of the “Annihilation” comic event (Feige, remember to keep Quasar in its original gender).
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the storyline for Silver Surfer might not delve into his origin since it would be quite similar to what’s shown in the Fantastic Four. Instead, it seems likely that in the MCU, Silver Surfer has already departed from Galactus when he encounters the heroes with whom he joins forces.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps gets released on July 25.
