As a seasoned gamer and comic book aficionado with over two decades of immersion into the Marvel Universe, I must admit that the news about Silver Sable‘s film revival at Sony brings forth a whirlwind of nostalgia and anticipation. My first encounter with the Latvian mercenary was in the early 2000s, and her unconventional methods of delivering justice have left an indelible mark on my gaming and comic book experiences.
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) persists to flourish amid a series of box office flops, boasting several upcoming projects. The latest installment, “Venom: The Last Dance,” debuts next week, followed by “Kraven the Hunter” in December. Meanwhile, “Spider-Man Noir” is under active development for streaming on Amazon.
Furthermore, it’s being whispered around that the much-awaited movie focusing on the Sinister Six is not yet shelved.
Based on the recent speculation shared by Daniel Richtman through his Patreon platform, it appears that one specific Silver Sable-focused SSU project is now back in production—referring to a movie about the character.

Silver Sable hails from Latvia and is an accomplished mercenary, tracker, and solider, known for her exceptional skills. Being the offspring of the former head of the Silver Sable Sablinova family, she carries a rich heritage that drives her to pursue and apprehend war criminals relentlessly. Her commitment to justice often leads her to employ unconventional tactics.
Silver Sable, across her tenure in the Marvel Universe, has collaborated with numerous teams and individuals, such as Silver Sable International and the Wild Pack, which could hint at her connection with Kraven.
It was previously planned for Silver Sable to star in her own movie, which was originally titled “Silver & Black”. This unmade film intended to spotlight both Silver Sable and the Black Cat as members of the SSU. The project was helmed by director Gina Prince-Bythewood, with collaborations on the screenplay from Lisa Joy, Chris Yost, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
Originally, I had been envisioned as a character in the unreleased Spider-Man 4, but my big screen debut actually happened in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). In October 2014, ideas for a Silver & Black project started brewing, and by March 2017, the spotlight was firmly on me and my fellow character.
Although they had already begun pre-production processes, such as planning to cast a Black actress for one role, the director’s unhappiness with the script resulted in production delays.
In July 2018, Gina Prince-Bythewood decided to take on the director role for “The Old Guard”. This decision led Sony Pictures to scrap their planned project “Silver & Black” the next month. The studio then shifted focus towards creating individual movies for each character, with Prince-Bythewood anticipated to continue as a producer in these projects.
By January 2020, the project had evolved to take the form of a television show, and by July 2020, director Prince-Bythewood showed enthusiasm about potentially returning to the project following her work on “The Old Guard”.
