Over this festive season, it’s advisable to maintain good behavior to avoid any slip-ups. A revamped version of “Silent Night, Deadly Night” is set to hit cinemas in late 2025, offering a modern twist on the beloved slasher cult film. The production company responsible for “Terrifier 3” and the proprietor of Bloody Disgusting, Cineverse, is driving this project forward, with the first promotional poster now unveiled.
The Creepy Duck Design-made poster offers a spine-tingling sneak peek at upcoming events. Meanwhile, it’s been announced that Studiocanal’s horror label, Sixth Dimension, has purchased worldwide rights to the movie, excluding North America, and Cineverse is responsible for U.S. distribution.
Under the direction of Mike P. Nelson (known for Wrong Turn and V/H/S/85), the upcoming reinterpretation of the 1984 slasher film, Silent Night, Deadly Night, is set to commence production this coming spring. This modern take revisits the original film directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr., which told the story of a young boy who tragically witnessed his parents’ murder at the hands of a Santa Claus-dressed individual. Traumatized by these events, he grows up to become a killer himself, adopting the red suit and meting out punishment to those he perceives as misbehaving.
The upcoming movie is set to combine psychological horror, gruesome slasher scenes, a dash of supernatural elements, and an unexpected romantic twist. Nelson, who is responsible for both writing and directing, is thrilled about working on this project, reminiscing about how the original poster of the film made a lasting impact on him during his childhood.
Brandon Hill, Cineverse’s Executive Director of Acquisitions, expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “I’ve been an ardent lover of ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ for a long time. I can hardly wait to share Mike’s creative vision with other enthusiasts of classic slashers.” He also noted that the year has demonstrated a high interest in independent horror films with edge, and he anticipates this production will draw substantial audiences from cinemas to home entertainment and streaming platforms.
The movie is made by Scott J. Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, the same team who created the 1984 version. Jamie R. Thompson, Anthony Masi, Steven Schneider, as well as Erick Opeka, Yolanda Macias, Brandon Hill, and Brad Miska are also involved in executive production.
Initially launched in 1984, “Silent Night, Deadly Night” stirred up a great deal of controversy and was one of the year’s most debated films. Despite facing criticism, it gave birth to four follow-ups that often deviated from the original idea, along with a 2012 reboot. Now, years later, the narrative surrounding Billy Chapman is poised for a new interpretation.
