Marvel has changed its focus and has decided to halt production on the upcoming “Okoye-centric” Black Panther spinoff series, originally featuring the character portrayed by Danai Gurira.
It has been announced by Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum that the series “Moon Knight” will not be renewed for a second season.
Winderbaum shared with the Pay or Wait YouTube channel that fans of Okoye should be thrilled about her return, although it won’t be on television. He couldn’t reveal the specific details, but he hinted at exciting developments ahead.
What was the Black Panther spinoff about?
The series is referred to as “Okoye and the Midnight Angels“, and it seems to be centered around Gurira’s character, portraying a tale that appears to be reminiscent of a solitary figure on a mission.
In 2022, Gurira explained that Ryan Coogler’s comment was like a kung fu series in which the character simply wanders the world. Okoye, much like this character, departs without a clear destination. She’s releasing her grip on her position and this journey is essentially her storyline. The end result of letting go remains uncertain.
It appears that the plan for Okoye and the Midnight Angels to join a live-action World of Wakanda series may no longer be moving forward.
Marvel’s shift in priorities
Winderbaum has also revealed that they won’t be proceeding with the project called “Nova,” and instead stated, “We’re creating programs designed to be released annually, similar to television series.
It appears that Marvel TV is leaning towards producing series that will span multiple seasons, rather than the standalone, costly MCU shows on Disney+ that we’ve seen before.
What’s next for Marvel TV?
The first season of “Daredevil: Born Again” starts on March 4, and there’s talk about the second season being developed. Reports also indicate that “Ironheart” and “Wonder Man” will be coming out soon. As for Marvel TV, they haven’t shared any new plans after those releases.
What’s next for Black Panther?
As a movie buff, I’m thrilled to share the news that Black Panther 3 is indeed in the works! It’s slated for release following the upcoming Avengers films. Ryan Coogler is penning the script and is expected to return as director. Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date just yet. However, it’s been hinted that Denzel Washington might be joining the cast, with rumors suggesting that Coogler has written a role specifically for him! Exciting times ahead for Marvel fans!
