In commemoration of Lex Luthor‘s 85th birthday, which fell on Sunday, James Gunn unveiled a sneak peek at Nicholas Hoult in a backstage photograph from the production of Superman.

To honor the 85th anniversary of Lex Luthor, Gunn shared an exclusive picture featuring Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex in our forthcoming film.
For the first time, Lex Luthor made his debut in issue 23 of “Action Comics” on April 10, 1940, a creation by the duo Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who are also known for creating Superman. Lex Luthor is widely recognized as one of the most brilliant criminal masterminds globally.
Lex Luthor is dangerous and imposing
Previously in December, James Gunn described Hoult’s character, Lex, as both “imposing” and someone you wouldn’t want to face. More recently, Hoult himself mentioned on Jimmy Kimmel that his portrayal of Lex is “dangerous.
Additionally, Hoult was present during the press conference that Gunn organized in December, where he further elaborated on his character Lex from the movie.
Clearly, he’s both intelligent and relentless, needing to outsmart Superman in certain aspects since he falls short in others. However, there’s a layer to this character that I hope resonates with the audience, such that even if you don’t approve of his methods, you can empathize with his motives and perhaps see his ideology as superior for mankind.
