Shocking Loss: How Siuan’s Death in The Wheel of Time Changes Everything!

In the final episode of season three, The Wheel of Time witnessed several significant events. Rand assumes the role of Car’a’carn, Nynaeve and Elayne’s group manages to expose the Black Ajah, and Elaida becomes the new leader at the White Tower. However, the most impactful scene in the season finale is the death of Siuan in The Wheel of Time series.

In the turbulent narrative of Tar Valon, Siuan has found herself embroiled in a challenging struggle against both the Black Ajah and Elaida to preserve her power. Regrettably, this ongoing battle proves to be a losing one, as we are left mourning the unexpected demise of Siuan, a significant character whose absence will undoubtedly impact the series significantly.

Over the course of this season, Elaida has grown progressively wary towards Siuan. She suspects that Siuan is conspiring with Moiraine regarding the Dragon’s affairs and their potential actions. This suspicion stems from Elaida’s pride, as she had assumed her seniority would make her an automatic choice for the position. However, unbeknownst to Elaida, it was Moiraine who exerted her influence, in a manner typical of the Blue Ajah, to ensure Siuan, her partner, occupied the Amyrlin Seat instead.

20 years prior to season three’s events, a strategy was set in motion: locating the Dragon Reborn and readying the White Tower to support him. This decision followed Moiraine and Siuan’s realization of the prophecy concerning the Dragon’s coming. Eager to manage his power, Moiraine embarked on a quest to find him. Simultaneously, Siuan dedicated herself to ensuring the White Tower was prepared to forge an alliance with the Dragon, aiming to jointly vanquish the Dark One.

As Moiraine successfully adhered to her assigned tasks, Siuan faced greater challenges in fulfilling hers. This challenge intensified when the Black Ajah was uncovered within the White Tower. In the final episode of season two, Moiraine departs accompanied by Lanfear, Rand, and Lan, marking a significant rift between Siuan and Moiraine as they ready themselves for the Dragon’s impending arrival.

As the third season unfolds, news of the Dragon’s resurrection and the unmasking of the Black Ajah members stirs turmoil within the Tower. To identify the last known member of the Black Ajah, Siuan, Verin, Leane, and Adeleas devise a scheme to lure Elaida into a trap. However, their plan goes awry when Elaida is narrowly saved from death by a Gray Man, fueling her suspicion that Siuan is involved in something secretive.

Among the characters in the show, Elaida stands out as one who employs ruthless tactics, firmly adhering to the idea that the end justifies the means. Her conviction centers around the belief that the Dragon should remain under Aes Sedai control as a strategy to vanquish the Dark One. In her perspective, power is paramount, and she feels it’s most effectively wielded by herself. As Siuan remarks in the finale, Elaida values power above all else, considering it her right to possess and utilize it.

In a chat with TopMob, I shared my struggles in embodying Elaida’s malice towards Siuan. “We barely saw eye to eye, and that proved to be quite a hurdle for me – portraying such a ruthlessly powerful politician who is willing to bend the rules to achieve her goals, which starkly contrasts with my personal beliefs,” I expressed.

The role of the Amyrlin Seat is one of significant authority, as whoever occupies this position wields a substantial impact on events across the globe. Often, monarchs consult with Aes Sedai for advice, and they carry out the strategies devised by the White Tower within their respective domains. Following her defeat in the election for the Amyrlin Seat, Elaida aimed to serve as advisor to Queen Morgase Trakand, ruler of the world’s strongest nation, Andor.

In my film enthusiast’s perspective, I myself find myself drawn to the White Tower, leaving Elaida in my wake, eager to uncover Siuan’s secrets. Elaida, nursing a deep-seated resentment following her defeat in the election for the Amyrlin Seat, is determined as ever to expose any hidden schemes she suspects Siuan may be orchestrating on behalf of the Dragon Reborn.

As a die-hard fan of “The Wheel of Time,” I watched with bated breath as Elaida called for another pivotal vote, this time aimed at deposing Siuan Sanche and sentencing her to a grim fate. The charges against her were severe – conspiring with the exiled Moiraine to aid the Dragon, a crime that would lead to her being stripped of her ability to channel the One Power and standing trial before the entire Hall for these alleged offenses.

Throughout the season, Elaida had meticulously maneuvered to win favor among the Aes Sedai in the Hall, and it seemed her efforts bore fruit as Siuan was found guilty. This verdict, however, marked a striking departure from what transpired in the books, leading to Siuan’s gruesome demise – an event that left me utterly stunned.

Following the occurrences in Book 4, titled “The Shadow Rising,” Siuan Sanche and Leane Sharif depart from the White Tower to instigate a revolt against Elaida’s rule. This uprising is later spearheaded by Egwene, who joins forces with Siuan, Leane, Gareth Byrne (formerly head of Morgase’s guard), and others in a significant struggle for the Tower. However, as Siuan has passed away, we’ll need to observe how this rebellion against Elaida takes shape in future events.

In Sophie Okonedo’s character, Siuan Sanche, we bid farewell as she meets her end; however, it’s important to note that Elaida, portrayed by Okonedo, is far from finished. She remains a significant figure in the books and could potentially continue her role should we be graced with a fourth season of the series.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my eagerness to share scenes with the exceptional Rosamund Pike’s character, Moiraine, should there be another season. Working alongside Sophie was an absolute joy – she’s an incredibly talented actress. Our confrontations were electrifying, and yet, working with her was a delight. Unfortunately, our paths didn’t cross in any scenes involving Moiraine this time around. However, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to collaborate with Rosamund Pike in the potential next season.

After this season, the fate of the White Tower is uncertain, particularly regarding the reaction of Aes Sedai not loyal to Elaida. It’s expected that a rebellion against Elaida will transpire, but it remains unclear who will spearhead this uprising. This situation presents exciting possibilities for numerous Aes Sedai main characters, especially Egwene, as they navigate their roles in the unfolding events.
