Shia LaBeouf was the center of attention in New Orleans this weekend. As the city’s Mardi Gras celebrations wind down, reports surfaced that the actor spent several days visiting bars in the Uptown neighborhood.
Staff at various establishments say LaBeouf’s bar-hopping began on Thursday. This is surprising, as he’s been public about his sobriety in recent years, previously linking past alcohol abuse to harmful behavior towards his ex-girlfriend, FKA Twigs.
However, on Sunday night, LaBeouf’s night came to an end at Ms. Mae’s, a 24-hour dive bar. Witnesses described him as visibly intoxicated and somewhat confrontational when he arrived.
Actor Shia LaBeouf, who is married to Mia Goth, apparently went to a bar shirtless and without any money. This happened during the Bacchus parade, a large event that draws huge crowds to St. Charles Avenue.
The doorman at Ms. Mae’s, Robert Skuse, said LaBeouf reportedly tried to use the “do you know who I am?” line when he was initially denied entry. However, he did cooperate when asked to put a shirt on and even took pictures with fans who recognized him.
Shia LaBeouf was asked to leave Ms. Mae’s bar after trying to pretend to be a bartender and repeatedly asking to pay with a credit card, even though the bar only accepted cash. Bartender Kyle Catarouch reportedly told him to “go back and dig holes,” referencing his movie Holes. Several reports suggest LaBeouf has been causing a disturbance around New Orleans all weekend, with one bartender claiming he was “terrorizing” the city.
On Thursday, he was seen at Dos Jefes jazz club, where witnesses said he was talking loudly and giving unwanted acting advice. He also visited 45 Tchoup, leaving a large tip but forgetting to sign the receipt.
Beyond his often-publicized behavior, Shia LaBeouf is actively working to revive his film career. He recently appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s ambitious film, Megalopolis, playing the unpredictable character Clodio Pulcher alongside Adam Driver and Aubrey Plaza.
He also starred in Salvable, a boxing drama coming out in 2025, where he plays an ex-convict who tries to get a retired fighter back into the dangerous world of underground boxing. Next, he’ll be in Assassination, a thriller based on a fictionalized account of JFK’s death, featuring a star-studded cast including Al Pacino, John Travolta, and Viggo Mortensen. LaBeouf is also contributing creatively to Angel of Death, a project he reportedly helped write.
