‘She’s Very Dangerous’: Monica Bellucci Talks About Her Character Delores In Upcoming Tim Burton’s Movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

As a dedicated fan of Tim Burton’s quirky and fantastical world, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel to Beetlejuice! The return of Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton is a delight, but the addition of Monica Bellucci as Delores has sent my anticipation soaring.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Tim Burton’s long-awaited follow-up to his 1988 dark fantasy comedy-horror film Beetlejuice is on the horizon! The original cast members, including Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, will reprise their roles from the first movie. Moreover, Monica Bellucci, a new addition to the ensemble, has tantalizingly hinted at intriguing details about her character. In this sequel, she will embody Delores.

Monica Bellucci has joined the cast of Beetlejuice 2, taking on the role of Delores opposite Michael Keaton, who returns to portray his cherished Beetlejuice persona. In a conversation with Collider, Bellucci shared insights about her experience playing this character and collaborating with director Tim Burton.

The actress expressed her joy at being a part of such an extraordinary family, mentioning that Burton had personally offered her a significant role in the film, which he believed she would be perfect for.

Bellucci stated her excitement in accepting the role, playfully referring to Delores as a “spirit-draining demon in the Afterlife,” joking that while Beetlejuice torments everyone, she haunts him particularly. She’s Beetlejuice’s bride, and they shared a brief but passionate love story that concluded tragically – in death.

As an ardent fan, I’d like to share my behind-the-scenes experience from being part of The Matrix Reloaded. The transformation into my character was no small feat; it required an intricate three-hour makeup process every day. My admired director, Burton, is a firm believer in practical effects over CGI, and his approach proved to be truly inspiring. He supplied detailed sketches of characters and scenarios that served as a blueprint for my acting. Instead of reacting to just a green screen, I found myself responding to real monsters on set, which made my performance all the more authentic and engaging.

Bellucci expressed that her character demanded extensive use of body language, leaving her feeling like an “impersonator or a damaged doll,” yet she found it entertaining to portray. The actress pointed out that Delores serves as a symbol for life, suggesting that everyone carries emotional wounds, with Delores having actual ones. She emphasized that Delores is resilient, recovering, and extremely menacing.

In an interview with the publication, Jessica Bellucci expressed her surprise at the appearance of her character’s “soul-draining ability” in the final cut of the film. Despite acting out the scenes, she admitted that she hadn’t anticipated how they would ultimately turn out. After watching the movie and editing, Bellucci exclaimed, “Wow!” finding it amusingly surprising.

In the meantime, the release of Beetlejuice 2 is scheduled for September 6, 2024, in cinemas. The film includes Justin Theroux portraying Rory, Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Catherine O’Hara playing Delia Deetz, and Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson, along with several other talented actors.
