‘She Does A Lot…’: Joker 2 Director Todd Phillips Reveals If Lady Gaga Stayed More In Character Than Joaquin Phoenix

As a die-hard fan of the Joker saga, I can hardly contain my excitement for the highly anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux! Having followed the journey of Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn since their inception, it’s mind-blowing to see Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga embody these iconic characters.

Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are putting maximum effort into their eccentric roles for the Joker characters. In this upcoming film, “Joker: Madness Duet,” which is a sequel to the 2019 hit movie Joker, Lady Gaga portrays Harley Quinn, also known as Harleen Quinzel, a devoted inmate residing in an asylum.

In his return to the character of Arthur Fleck, who finds himself on death row while engaged in a complex romantic relationship with Lee, audiences are excited to witness the electric on-screen chemistry between Phoenix and Gaga once more.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d like to share an intriguing tidbit from a chat between Todd Phillips and Variety. In the making of “Joker,” both Bradley Cooper (as Gaga) and Joaquin Phoenix immersed themselves deeply in their roles. However, it seems that Lady Gaga occasionally maintained her character persona more persistently than Joaquin did. Despite this, it was Joaquin who walked away with the prestigious Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in the initial film.

The director admits, “I’m not entirely sure what ‘Method’ entails. Is he committed? Is she committed? Absolutely. But he doesn’t maintain his character around the clock. In her case, I would say she delves deeper into it than him.” As a director, Phillips advocates for any approach that helps them reach their required state.

In simpler terms, the storyline of Joker unfolds as we follow Arthur’s transformation from an unsuccessful comic in Gotham City to a wicked character, driven by despair in life. Towards the end of the film, Arthur is depicted conversing with a social worker while being detained at Arkham Asylum.

As an ardent admirer, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming Joker 2! While the specifics of the plot are still a mystery to us, the first trailer tantalizingly reveals Arthur’s and Harley’s initial meeting within the walls of Arkham Asylum. However, in this rendition, Harley isn’t just Arthur’s psychiatrist; she’s a fellow inmate, sharing the same confined space as him. This intriguing twist promises to breathe fresh life into their complex relationship!

The movie is said to focus on the aftermath of Arthur Fleck, as Joker, committing a chilling murder of Murray Franklin, a popular talk show host in Gotham City. The 2019 release of Joker grossed over $1 billion globally at the box office.

Joker: Folie à Deux will release in theaters on October 4.
