Shawn Levy Directs Two STRANGER THINGS 5 Episodes, Calls It ‘A Fitting Commemoration’

In early November, the stars and team behind Stranger Things celebrated the premiere of the first part of its fifth and final season. They traveled from the show’s fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, to Los Angeles, California, to reflect on the incredible ten-year journey as it nears its conclusion. Director Shawn Levy shared that he directed two episodes for this last season, marking a final return to Hawkins.

Just as Vecna is connected to the Upside Down, David Levy has been a part of the show since its start. He’s been an executive producer since season one and even made a brief appearance in the fourth episode of that season, “The Body.” He’s excited about his work on the fifth season, which is the first time he’s directly collaborated with the Duffer brothers.

I usually direct two episodes each season, but filming Deadpool & Wolverine prevented me from doing episodes three and four, as I have in past years,” Levy explained to Deadline. “I ended up directing six episodes, and I co-directed episode seven with the Duffer brothers – a first for us. It felt like a great way to celebrate our long-standing working relationship and friendship.

The sixth and seventh episodes of Stranger Things 5, titled “Escape from Camazotz” and “The Bridge,” will both be available on Christmas Day. These episodes will lead into the series finale, which will air on New Year’s Day. Director Shawn Levy says the finale will be a very emotional experience for viewers.

He recalls being involved from the very beginning – crafting the story, the outlines, and the script – but nothing could have prepared him for watching the eighth episode just a couple of weeks ago. He says his colleagues, Matt and Ross, can confirm it – he actually FaceTimed them from London while watching, overcome with emotion. He was deeply moved by the finale, calling it a perfect ending and praising the creators for doing an exceptional job.

I was so excited at the premiere on Thursday when Levy shared some news about his next project! Apparently, Star Wars: Starfighter is over halfway done filming, and Ryan Gosling is going to be in it! Honestly, the thought of seeing Ken—I mean, Ryan Gosling—in space is just… perfect. I can’t wait!

Director Shawn Levy recently shared news about ‘Star Wars: Starfighter,’ and praised Ryan Gosling as a fantastic person to work with.
