Sharon Stone, age 68, has enjoyed a successful and interesting career in Hollywood. However, she became widely recognized after starring in the film Basic Instinct. Before becoming famous, Stone began her career as a model.
During her time at Edinboro State College, she was crowned Miss Crawford County and went on to compete in the Miss Pennsylvania pageant in 1976. One of the judges suggested she pursue a modeling career and move to New York City.
She quickly signed with Ford Modeling Agency and worked in Milan and Paris before pursuing a career in acting. As she later remembered, she “packed her bags, moved back to New York, and waited in line for a chance to be an extra in a Woody Allen movie.” She then began landing small roles in films like Stardust Memories (1980) and Deadly Blessing (1981).

In the 1980s, Stone gained experience appearing on popular television shows like Silver Spoons, Remington Steele, and Magnum, P.I., and in films such as Irreconcilable Differences (1984) and King Solomon’s Mines (1985). She took on various roles, from guest appearances to smaller parts in action and adventure movies, but hadn’t yet achieved widespread fame.
I first really noticed Sharon Stone in Total Recall back in 1990 – she was fantastic as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wife, and the movie was huge! But it was two years later, in 1992, that she truly blew me away. Her role as Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct was incredible – a really smart, mysterious, and potentially dangerous novelist. That role really defined her career, as far as I’m concerned.

The part was considered risky due to its nude scenes, and many actresses didn’t want to take it. While reviews of the movie were mixed, Sharon Stone’s performance received a lot of positive attention. Film critic Peter Travers of Rolling Stone described Stone, a former model, as stunning and declared the film cemented her status as a major star of the decade. The movie was a huge financial success, earning over $352 million globally, and Stone received a Golden Globe nomination, confirming her position as a leading actress.
Following her success in Basic Instinct, Sharon Stone became a highly sought-after actress in Hollywood. She went on to star in several films, including Sliver (1993), Intersection (1994), and The Specialist (1994), and received critical praise for her role in Casino (1995), which earned her another Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination. Stone also took a hands-on approach with The Quick and the Dead (1995), personally selecting director Sam Raimi and even funding Leonardo DiCaprio’s salary to ensure he starred in the movie.

Even though Sharon Stone was successful, she encountered difficulties in the 2000s. A significant health problem in 2001 required her to step away from acting for a time. When she returned, she took on guest appearances on television shows like The Practice and appeared in smaller films, including Cold Creek Manor (2003) and Catwoman (2004), though not all of them were hits. She continued to demonstrate her acting ability in independent and ensemble films, such as Broken Flowers (2005) and The Disaster Artist (2017).
Stone has also worked in television, receiving positive reviews for her performances in HBO’s Mosaic (2018) and Netflix’s Ratched (2020). She continues to appear in films and TV shows, and is excited to be part of the third season of Euphoria, calling the opportunity an honor.
Throughout her career, Sharon Stone has been admired for both her striking looks and her daring roles.
