More than a year after Shannen Doherty passed away, her former husband, Kurt Iswarienko, has resumed their legal dispute over their divorce. According to documents from TMZ, Iswarienko is now questioning if the Los Angeles court even has the power to enforce their original divorce agreement.
The disagreement started because Doherty’s family believes Iswarienko didn’t keep his promises from a previous agreement. Doherty signed this agreement on July 12, 2024, shortly before her death from cancer. It stated he needed to sell their house in Dripping Springs, Texas, and return personal belongings, like a photo collection, to her estate. The estate says he hasn’t done either of those things.
In a recent filing, Iswarienko argued that Christopher Cortazzo, the trustee, hasn’t proven he has the legal right to control the trust. This challenge to the court and Cortazzo’s authority is delaying the estate’s ability to recover its assets.
Shannen Doherty and her soon-to-be ex-husband have a complicated past. They were married for 11 years before she filed for divorce in 2023. On her podcast, she shared that she found out her husband had been having an affair for two years while she was getting ready for brain tumor surgery. She explained that the discovery was deeply hurtful and she didn’t want him present during the operation, stating, “I felt so betrayed.” This infidelity is now a key factor in the disagreements surrounding their divorce agreement.
Shannen Doherty became famous for her roles on popular 1990s television shows, including Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Prue Halliwell in Charmed. She also starred in films like Heathers and Mallrats. Throughout her fight with cancer, she continued working, appearing in the BH90210 reboot and sharing her experiences with treatment and life on her podcast.
According to the estate, Iswarienko hasn’t sold the house in Texas or given back personal items, which is delaying the completion of Doherty’s legal and financial matters. Many fans and followers are still closely watching the case as it progresses through the courts.
