Shangri-La Frontier S2: New Arc, Cast Revealed!

In the second series of “Shangri-La Frontier,” a fresh narrative known as the “Global Game Competition” is being introduced. The team behind the anime has unveiled new artwork and announced the cast members who will feature in this upcoming storyline.

Yumi Uchiyama is set to portray Megumi Natsume, a skilled gamer who competes in virtual arenas as part of Kei Uomi’s (Oikatzo) team, the Nitro Squad. Minami Takahashi, another fresh addition to the cast, will take on the role of Sylvia Goldberg, the lone female member hailing from StarRain, one of the elite American fighting teams.

The second installment of the anime series started airing on the 13th of October, and it’s scheduled to run for approximately six months without a break. Excited fans can catch it on Crunchyroll, where they can choose between subtitled and dubbed versions. The opening theme, ‘Frontiers’, is sung by Awich, while the closing theme, ‘realitYhurts’, is by CVLTE.

In October 2023, the inaugural season of “Shangri-La Frontier” was launched simultaneously on 28 MBS/TBS channels. The series spanned over two broadcast periods, with Crunchyroll providing live streaming as each episode aired.

Under the direction of Toshiyuki Kubooka, who’s renowned for shows like “Harukana Receive” and “Wandering Witch”, this anime is being brought to life by production company C2C. Hiroki Ikeshita serves as the assistant director in this project. The scripts are overseen and penned by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu. Ayumi Kurashima handles character design and acts as the chief animation director. Lastly, the music is masterfully crafted by monaca.

The anime is derived from Katarina’s web novel series titled “Shangri-La Frontier,” which was first published in May 2017. The narrative centers around Rakurō Hizutome, a sophomore high school student who has an unhealthy obsession with discovering and excelling at subpar video games. Once he begins playing the latest VR game called “Shangri-La Frontier,” he delves headfirst into it, employing his skills to unlock all its hidden mysteries.

Ryōsuke Fuji’s manga version started in July 2020. Kodansha USA Publishing translates and publishes the manga in English, while a game for the series is currently under development at Netmarble Nexus.
