SHANG-CHI Director Destin Daniel Cretton to Helm SPIDER-MAN 4

As a seasoned gamer and avid Marvel fan with over two decades of comic book lore under my belt, I can confidently say that Destin Daniel Cretton stepping into the director’s chair for Spider-Man 4 is an exciting turn of events! Having closely followed Cretton’s work since his indie days, it’s fascinating to see him take on such a high-profile project.

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, a fourth official installment featuring a specific Peter Parker is upcoming. The Tom Holland portrayal of this character has been one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most captivating figures. His three solo films, along with his appearances in an additional three, have generated immense box office revenue. A fourth solo film was bound to happen. However, Jon Watts, director of the previous three, chose not to continue, leaving the director’s position vacant. It appears that Destin Daniel Cretton will take over this role!

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that Jon M. Chu, who was previously set to direct the 2021 film “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” is in discussions to assume the role of Spider-Man’s director. Initially, Chu had been scheduled to direct “Avengers 5” when it was still titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” However, due to Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles, Marvel Studios decided to alter their plans, abandoning Kang in favor of Robert Downey Jr.’s Dr. Doom in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday.” As a result, Chu stepped back to allow the Russo Brothers ample space to direct that movie. Subsequently, he focused on the “Wonder Man” TV series and the sequel to “Shang-Chi.

This endorsement indicates high praise for Cretton’s work on the film “Wonder Man,” currently in post-production. The film “Shang-Chi” stood out among Marvel Studios productions following “Avengers: Endgame.” Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, not as many people were able to watch it as they would have liked. Therefore, a Spider-Man movie serves as an excellent alternative if an Avengers movie isn’t available.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal are set to return as producers for Spider-Man 4, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who worked on the Home trilogy, also coming back on board. It is anticipated that filming will start early next year, so stay tuned for more updates!
