Shake-Up at MI6: Amazon MGM Takes Full Creative Control of ‘James Bond’ as Broccoli & Wilson Step Back

Effective now, Amazon’s subsidiary MGM Studios will be guiding the creative aspects of the James Bond series as producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have decided to take a step away from their roles.

In tandem with the announcement of a fresh partnership, it was revealed that Amazon MGM, Broccoli, and Wilson have joined forces in a joint venture. This new alliance maintains their shared ownership of the franchise, while Amazon MGM assumes leadership for upcoming projects in production.

Mike Hopkins, leader of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, referred to Bond as “one of the most legendary figures in movie history” and expressed their pride in being part of preserving this esteemed legacy as they gear up for the upcoming phase of 007.

Wilson, who has been involved with Bond movies for close to six decades, announced his decision to step down from production work so he can concentrate on artistic and philanthropic endeavors. On the other hand, Broccoli, whose father, Cubby Broccoli, played a significant role in establishing the Bond series, stated that she is shifting her attention towards new ventures following her commitment to preserving the legacy of the franchise.

Due to Amazon’s acquisition of MGM in 2022, they now hold the authority to broadcast James Bond films. Additionally, they will have complete artistic control over upcoming productions.
