As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for personal growth stories, I find Shailene Woodley’s journey to be truly inspiring. Her experiences, particularly her interactions with Kate Winslet, serve as a testament to the power of mentorship and self-discovery.
In a recent interview, Shailene Woodley spoke about the valuable guidance she received from Kate Winslet during their collaboration in the 2014 film “Divergent.” Woodley shared that Winslet’s advice enabled her to recognize that she didn’t have to alter herself to satisfy others’ expectations and instead, empowered her to be true to herself. This insight has left a profound impression on Woodley. Keep reading for more insights!
On The Drew Barrymore Show, Shailene Woodley recently chatted about her newest miniseries titled Three Women, where she portrays the character of Gia. Furthermore, during her series promotion, she also reminisced about the wise counsel she received from her fellow Divergent cast member, Kate Winslet, early in her career to help her navigate Hollywood.
Initially, Woodley conveyed her gratitude for having individuals who, since her youth, appeared authentically in her life – truthfully and sincerely. Later, Barrymore inquired if Kate Winslet had served as a sort of sounding board for the actress, to which she responded emphatically, “She was far more than that. To put it simply, she’s extremely real.” She went on to explain that Winslet is genuine and unapologetic about being herself, having done the necessary work to become who she is.
Barrymore mentioned that a recent quote from Winslet struck a chord with her, where the Titanic star expressed a wish to possess the same boldness and self-assurance she currently feels as a woman earlier in life.
The actress from Blended went on to recite her statement, “When I first appeared in Titanic as a young girl, people, especially men, critiqued my body shape and size. If that had happened, I wouldn’t have tolerated it at all; I would have firmly addressed it immediately.” And she added, “Wow.” (This version aims to make the text more conversational and easy to understand.)
Shailene Woodley later mentioned that one amazing aspect of Kate Winslet is that although she didn’t follow the same path for herself, “she stood up for me.” Woodley elaborated that during their collaboration, she was 21 and grappling with the demands of public life, as people were consistently advising her on how to appear and behave, what to eat, or even suggesting she dye her hair a different color.
She remembered the time when Winslet gently guided her, placed her hands on her shoulders, and said, “No, no, no, you’re not like that. This is the reality,” further emphasizing, “She provided me with that crucial moment, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her, all by herself.
Meanwhile, Three Women is now streaming on Starz.
