As a film enthusiast, I’ve got to say, the cat is out of the bag! The revelation that Lumon had an Eagan mole among their employees has certainly caused quite the stir. In the fifth episode of “Severance,” we delved deeper into this situation, learning more about both Innies and Outies.

The title “Trojan’s Horse” hinted at a sneaky plot, and boy, was it ever! The episode brought up several intriguing questions and provided some major revelations. For instance, what exactly is the Eagan Corporation’s true motive for infiltrating Lumon? And what does this mean for our protagonist Mark, who found himself entangled in this web of secrets?

Moreover, we learned that there might be more to Irving than meets the eye. The episode left us with a cliffhanger, making me wonder if he is truly working for Eagan or if there’s another layer to his character yet to be unveiled.

Overall, “Trojan’s Horse” was a rollercoaster ride of suspense and intrigue, leaving us with even more mysteries to ponder as we eagerly await the next episode!

Revelations From Severance Season 2, Episode 4, “Trojan’s Horse”

Mark Hasn’t told Devon about Gemma or (His Incomplete) Reintegration

Devon, Mark’s sister, believes he’s trying to imprint a question into his mind for his Innie (Inner Self) to perceive because Mark hasn’t revealed to her that he knows without a doubt Gemma is alive. Additionally, he hasn’t shared with her that he underwent reintegration, which is causing him the same illness it caused Petey at present.

Dr. Reghabi’s full return isn’t fully realized yet, given the circumstances. For safety purposes, she resides with Mark, collaborating on their shared projects, but she proceeds cautiously following Petey’s passing. The process of her reemergence is underway, though. In the finale, Mark Scout finally caught a glimpse of his Innie’s realm, and upon hearing her voice for the first time post-Petey, he personally witnessed his still-alive wife, Casey, in a new light as Ms. Casey.

By concealing information from Devon, Mark is taking a risky approach that potentially endangers his own life. In the event of harm coming to Reghabi, not only will his rehabilitation process be left unfinished, but there would also be no one aware that he had undergone it in the first place.

Mark S. Won’t Tell Helly R. He Slept With Helena

Devon isn’t the only one Mark has secrets hidden from; it’s also Helly (the real Helly) who is back on Lumon’s floor, despite Helena’s wishes. The higher-ups at Jame Eagan and the Board are exploiting Helena once more.

The reunion Helly anticipated wasn’t what transpired. Mark behaved abominably towards her. He’s furious with Lumon and Helena for deceiving the Innies, but he’s also puzzled and ashamed. He believed he had slept with Helly R. during the ORTBO. Now, he questions whether he can ever trust himself to discern if Helly is genuine, and how could he clarify this to Helly R., given that Helena Eagan managed to deceive him so profoundly?

As a cinephile, I can’t help but ponder: Should he have done it? If Helly discovers that her sworn enemy, the man she detests (let’s call him her “Outie”), shared a moment with the man she kissed mere moments ago… how will she respond? Considering Helly has just emerged from the chaos of the Macrodat Uprising, her awakening would surely be jolted by this revelation. The question is, how will she react to the truth behind what transpired?

Irv B. Left Directions to the Testing Floor for Dylan G.

Before Dylan had fully grieved for Irv B., he discovered something remarkable that his late friend had done for him. Previously, when Irving threatened to sink the phony Helly, Dylan regretted not heeding his friend’s advice earlier. Instead of reprimanding him, however, Irv simply encouraged Dylan with the words, “Keep going.” It wasn’t until later that Dylan understood this was a coded message since the “Hang In There” poster at work was where Irving had concealed instructions to the Testing Floor elevator.

The instructions were originally penned by Felicia from the Optics & Design department. She had written it on the reverse side of Irv’s sketch of the Testing Floor, which she refers to as the Exports Hall. (The episode begins with an enigmatic individual using dental tools in that location, a detail we’ll delve into later under our “Questions” section.)

Even though Irv B. is no longer present, his shrewdly encoded message to Dylan continues to aid his Innie associates in their mission to unravel the mystery. Presently, Dylan needs to navigate towards the Testing Area to discover the reason behind the unusual shipments it receives.

Bonus Insight: Dylan G.’s eulogy was extraordinary. (A tip of the hat, though grudgingly given, to Milchick for that clever remark about Dylan sweetening things up with his signature saltiness.)

Miss Huang Is Developing An Identity as Her Own Person

Miss Huang, who was previously regarded as quite peculiar among the staff on the severed floor, much like Ms. Casey before her, is gradually becoming more relatable and typical. A recent instance of confusing a question with an opinion might suggest otherwise, but it also indicates that she’s capable of forming independent thoughts and challenging her superiors, which signifies personal growth. And did you know, she’s also a talented musician?

Similar to Gemma/Ms. Casey, Miss Huang could be someone Lumon revived – like they have connections in the morgue throughout Kier. This could account for her seeming unnatural demeanor. It also provides an explanation for how and why Lumon is employing a minor. However, regardless of the truth, she’s showing signs of growing independence in a place that’s determined to prevent Innies from having their own thoughts.

Lumon Is the Worst Place to Work Even For Outies

Natalie’s expression conveyed all that she didn’t dare to voice when Seth Milchick inquired about her feelings towards Lumon’s provocative artwork. This wasn’t a new experience for them, as Milchick’s comment hinted at previous instances where Lumon had made Black employees uneasy. It seems that even high-ranking individuals of color, who hold crucial roles within the company, aren’t recognized or treated as unique individuals by Lumon.

Regardless of any positive aspects, it would still be incredibly unpleasant to work at Lumon given Milchick’s excessive and pretentious monthly performance reviews filled with bizarre critiques. For instance, Mr. Drummond, known for his love of obscure language, faulted Milchick for using sophisticated words. Additionally, he criticized Milchick for the seemingly insignificant act of placing paperclips upside-down.

It’s completely baffling why anyone other than Eagan works at Lumon, suggesting that Milchick and Natalie each have very private motivations for being employed there.

Milchick Is “Tightening the Leash” Because Everything Depends on “Cold Harbor”

It’s valid for Drummond to express dissatisfaction with Milchick’s role as acting floor manager, but his slow formation of the new MDR team and the kindness reforms are not among the issues. The catastrophic ORTBO was entirely Milchick’s initiative. When discussing a performance review, it should be noted that the potential future Lumon CEO came close to death during Milchick’s ill-advised team building exercise.

Drummond’s criticism and persuasive speech had their intended effect. When he said to Milchick, “I believe it’s high time we return to fundamentals, Seth. Let’s not forget the greater mission of these workers, and treat them as they truly are,” Milchick decided to stop viewing Innies as individuals with feelings. Instead, he chose to tighten control over them, treating them as mere tools manufactured by Lumon. This change became apparent when Milchick confronted Mark S. in the elevator. Milchick intimidated Mark by hinting that he would inform Helly about Mark’s indiscretions with Helena.

Additionally, Mr. Drummond managed to persuade Milchick to become more stringent by appealing to both his pride and his dedication to his profession. He declared that “Cold Harbor” isn’t just significant, it represents Lumon’s ultimate goal. “Mark Scout’s completion of ‘Cold Harbor’ will be recognized as one of the most remarkable moments in the history of this planet,” Drummond asserted. “It will occur under your leadership. That’s quite an inheritance you will pass on.

Ricken Is Full of Crap

In a clever twist, Nat’s allure had such an impact on Ricken that he now composes Lumon Innie propaganda under the pretense it will spark rebellion, when in truth, he’s deceiving himself. Devon recognizes this deception, and eventually so does Ricken. However, he finds it hard to resist the financial rewards and recognition. Despite his self-proclaimed enlightenment, Ricken is no exception to others in this respect.

Burt and Irving’s Outies Don’t Already Know Each Other

Although Burt’s home address (Outie) was marked on a map of former colleagues, Outie Irving has never personally known Burt beyond work-related interactions. However, an unusual incident occurred when Burt started following Irving after the latter unexpectedly appeared at his door shouting his name. When they eventually crossed paths, it became apparent that their subconscious selves (Innies) may have had a romantic history.

Irv is headed to Burt’s residence for a dinner featuring ham and an upscale red wine. Fields, Burt’s spouse, will also attend, even though they had initially planned to travel to Milwaukee; this was changed due to Irv’s presence. This situation appears peculiar, but it may be the unique opportunity for all parties involved to unravel whatever mystery is at hand.

When I Die I Want a Lumon Innie-Style Funeral

This is quite personal, but it carries significant weight. I’d love for everyone to be aware that my funeral should feature a retro video of me dancing in 16-bit style and a carved watermelon resembling my likeness. A moment of silence lasting nine seconds might not suffice, but I can accept that if the watermelon is sourced from Malaysia.

Who Is the Whistling Man Delivering Dental Equipment to the Testing Floor?

In earlier times, O&D used to transport goods to what’s known as the Testing Floor by Felicia, which Irv was informed by her. However, Lumon took over these deliveries and now someone else handles them. The series began with this person taking items that seemed like dental equipment towards the enigmatic level where Miss Casey had vanished. Unlike in Severance, we didn’t get a glimpse of this individual’s face.

Is the person in question someone familiar or an acquaintance we haven’t realized works at Lumon? Could it be a stranger, a clone, or a character who was thought to be deceased? Since Severance deliberately concealed his identity, and he mysteriously carried dental tools to a floor where Gemma is present, what’s the connection between him and her, and why is this happening?

Who is Irv Really Calling?

If Irving isn’t placing calls to Burt regarding Lumon and its operations, who is he speaking with about bringing down the company? Could it be that Irving has an informant within Lumon’s upper management? Does he perhaps know one of his Innie colleagues’ Outies? And why won’t this individual respond to him?

Could it be that Irving is speaking to an alternate version of himself? While this may seem far-fetched, there are hints suggesting that Irving might have split into multiple entities. If so, he could be interacting with a third iteration of himself.

On this show it can’t be ruled out.

Is Dr. Reghabi Telling the Truth About How Often She’s Done Reintegration?

Reghabi seems experienced in the process of reintegration, hinting at multiple instances. However, Mark missed this cue. He also mentioned that she had only worked on Petey, but her words about Petey disobeying instructions suggested that others have gone through this procedure as well.

Was there only one person whom Reghabi helped reintegrate, or were there more individuals involved? If there were others, could you tell me about them and what they might be using the information for?

Despite the abundance of disclosures in this episode, there remain significant queries that both Inner and Outer beings will be eager to learn more about.
