‘Set Sit Deep In The Saddle And Go’: Laura Prepon Reflects On Her Time On The ’90s Show; Talks About The Next Part

As an ardent fan of Laura Prepon, I am absolutely thrilled to see her back in Point Place, Wisconsin, not just as an actress but also as a director for That ’90s Show! Her passion for directing, evident since her days on Orange Is the New Black, shines through in every episode she helms.

Laura Prepon has returned to Pointe Place, Wisconsin, this time taking on a larger part in That ’90s Show. She’s once again portraying her character Donna Pinciotti, as seen in That ’70s Show, but she’s also stepped behind the camera and directed every episode of Part 3, which is currently streaming on Netflix.

Prepon expressed that she’s found her primary enthusiasm lies in directing, although acting remains dear to her heart. She put it this way: “I’ve had an incredible time with directing; I’ve been doing it for a while now, even during my time on Orange [Is the New Black], I directed several episodes. Last year, I also directed some episodes in another show. It was truly rewarding to be able to direct numerous episodes at once as it allowed me to delve deeply into the process and fully immerse myself.”

Refreshingly stepping back onto a well-tread set surrounded by faces I’ve known for eons amplified the pleasure for me. I reveled in collaborating with my long-standing comrades, from the show’s scriptwriters to the producers, and let me tell you, directing those episodes was nothing short of exhilarating!

Prepon is delighted with how Part 3 evolved and wishes audiences will experience the same cozy and comforting vibe as That ’70s Show. She pointed out, “It’s wonderful that it’s set in the ’90s because there are no cell phones. The characters aren’t constantly on their iPhones, allowing us to focus more on what happens in the basement, where we could create a lot of depth and activity even when they seemed to be doing nothing.”

Regarding the suspenseful finale in Part 3 when Donna, Kitty, and Red discover Leia using marijuana, Prepon expresses optimism that the narrative will carry on. Prepon stated, “They certainly left it quite unresolved, and I’m hoping we get an opportunity to delve deeper into it and find out more about how Donna navigates these challenges as a mother and spouse.”

Despite spending extended time apart due to her directorial duties, Prepon and her spouse, actor Ben Foster, have found a balance that allows their relationship to thrive. Married since 2018, they are proud parents of two children.

Originally, Prepon first played the character Donna on the Fox series “That ’70s Show” from 1998 to 2006. In the upcoming series titled “That ’90s Show,” she returns as Donna, now serving as Leia Forman’s mother, who spends her summer in Point Place with a fresh batch of friends.

In the first season, Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama briefly appeared, but it’s only Prepon who came back for the third season. Meanwhile, Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp carry on their roles as Red and Kitty Forman, and Don Stark reprises his character Bob Pinciotti.
