Serena Williams Goes Public With Glp-1 Weight Loss Shot at Super Bowl

Serena Williams is known for grabbing attention, and she did so again during the Super Bowl – but this time not for her tennis skills. The 44-year-old appeared in a commercial for the telehealth company Ro, openly discussing her use of medication to help with weight loss.

The commercial, called “Healthier on Ro,” shows Williams talking about her health journey and the progress she’s made over the past year. She revealed she’s lost 34 pounds since starting to use Zepbound, a medication that helps with weight management.

Williams decided to seek medical help after struggling following the birth of her daughter, Adira, in 2023. She explained that despite her best efforts with diet and exercise, she couldn’t lose weight, which left her feeling frustrated and stuck.

Serena Williams explained that the medication wasn’t a quick fix, but a way to overcome a physical challenge that she couldn’t solve with effort alone. She says she feels healthier than ever since starting the treatment, with her cholesterol down 30% and a significantly lower risk of heart disease.

She playfully mentioned on a podcast that her joint pain is completely gone – she feels like she has the knees of Megan Thee Stallion! Her former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, shared that they used to have tough conversations about her weight when she was competing.

He explained that while she was often frustrated, he pushed her because he knew how demanding it was to compete at a high level while carrying extra weight. For Williams, reaching a weight where she feels light and energized is a very meaningful personal achievement.

During the Super Bowl, Serena Williams demonstrated how she uses a GLP-1 medication for weight loss, showing viewers how easy it is to get through the Ro app. She highlighted that these medications are also available as pills. It’s a shift from the traditional Super Bowl ads for products like beer and trucks.

By February 2026, Serena Williams has a full plate outside of tennis. She’s preparing for the launch of her new docuseries, The CEO Club, which premieres on February 23rd. The eight-episode series, which she also helped produce, follows Williams and other successful women as they build their businesses and navigate the world of entrepreneurship.

Serena Williams is also an executive producer on the upcoming Netflix series based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s popular novel, Carrie Soto Is Back. The show follows a famous tennis player who returns to competition to protect her legacy, which has led to speculation about Williams’ own potential return to the sport. Although she hinted at a possible comeback during an appearance on The Today Show, simply saying “we’ll see,” she currently identifies herself as a housewife on official documents.

In addition to her work in media, Serena Williams still manages Serena Ventures, her firm that invests in new businesses started by women and people of color.
