Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short Return In Only Murders in the Building Season 5: Here’s When to Expect It

As a devoted follower, I’ve been excitedly keeping up with Selena Gomez’s journey throughout this year’s awards season, a testament to her film Emilia Pérez’s success. Yet, it seems that the time has come for her to return to one of her critically acclaimed productions – Only Murders in the Building. The fifth season of this Hulu mystery-comedy is now underway with filming.

The show “Only Murders in the Building” (OMITB), that earned an Emmy nomination, has set a pattern for annual releases, a rarity these days in the streaming era. Fortunately, production on season 5 is now confirmed, giving fans a clearer idea of when they can expect the next episode.

In previous seasons, there was a consistent timeframe between filming and release. For instance, Season 1 premiered in October 2021, followed by Season 2 in August 2022, Season 3 in October 2023, and Season 4 in October 2024 (which started filming in March of that year). It’s expected that season 5, which will begin production in March 2025, will also follow this pattern and be released towards the end of the same year.

In more straightforward terms: Just recently, OMITB won the Comedy Ensemble award at the SAG Awards 2025. During the ceremony, a surprised Gomez quipped, “We rarely win, this is so peculiar… Marty and Steve weren’t here because, well, they don’t exactly value it that much.

During her spontaneous address, she made sure to express her gratitude towards her fellow actors and the crew. She also mentioned a special thank you to Marty and Steve for their role in raising her. Truly, I am so grateful. This recognition is not just for me, but for all of us. I’m bringing this award back to New York for season 5. Thank you so much! I’m incredibly appreciative! Following four seasons, we finally received our initial award as a group, and I couldn’t be happier to share this moment with Steve and Marty! They truly deserve this recognition more than I do. Gomez later posted on Instagram, stating that these two gentlemen have significantly influenced the character I portray in our series.

Despite the fact that details about season 5 are scarce so far, one thing that has been verified is its continued setting in New York City, as there will be no filming happening in Los Angeles.
