Selena Gomez Reveals ‘Medical Issues’ Prevent Her from Carrying Her Own Children: ‘I Had To Grieve’

As a lifestyle expert, I have always admired Selena Gomez for her resilience and bravery in sharing her personal journey with the world. In this latest interview, she has once again shown her strength by opening up about her struggles with carrying children due to health complications.

Selena Gomez is revealing more about her personal life than ever before. In a recent conversation, the star of Only Murders in the Building disclosed that she cannot have children naturally due to health issues, but she’s absolutely certain about becoming a mother. As a result, surrogacy and adoption are strong options she’s considering.

In all honesty, there’s something I’ve never confessed before: carrying my own children isn’t an option for me due to some severe health complications. These issues pose a significant risk not only to my life but also to the baby’s well-being. It took me time to come to terms with this reality and grieve over it.

Although the artist who sings “Love You Like a Love Song” initially found herself in a challenging situation upon learning she couldn’t carry a child, she now finds herself in a far better place. She expressed gratitude that options such as surrogacy and adoption are available to her, considering them as blessings.

Selena, though the circumstances differ from her initial thoughts, remains enthusiastic about the possibility of becoming a mother. She underscores that, in the end, it doesn’t matter to her how it transpires; the baby will undoubtedly be hers, and hers alone.

The public is familiar with Gomez’s lupus diagnosis and the kidney transplant she underwent due to this condition. Moreover, she disclosed her bipolar disorder during a live stream on Miley Cyrus’s Instagram program, Bright Minded, in April 2020.

Previously, Selena Gomez had spoken about her aspiration to have children in various interviews, and this wasn’t an exception during her Vanity Fair chat. In a conversation with Rolling Stone from November 2022, she reminisced about crying in a car as she contemplated the impact of her bipolar disorder medications on her ability to carry her own kids. Yet, even under those circumstances, Selena expressed optimism about becoming a parent through alternative methods.

As per an article from WebMD, certain medications used to treat bipolar disorder may pose risks during pregnancy, such as causing neural tube defects, heart issues, developmental delays, or behavioral problems in the newborn. Nonetheless, some healthcare providers suggest continuing these medications throughout pregnancy, as symptoms of bipolar disorder might intensify during this time.

In another part of her Vanity Fair article, Gomez talked about her boyfriend Benny Blanco, whom she made public their relationship in December 2023. She referred to the curly-haired music producer as a profound source of light in her life, mentioning that he is her best friend and expressing her joy in sharing everything with him.

Concerning his statement about proposing marriage during his interview on The Howard Stern Show, Gomez shared that she burst out laughing after his appearance and inquired from her partner if he had any other public declarations to make.

In terms of work, Gomez is preparing for the debut of Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building on Hulu, which has also been green-lit for a fifth season. Meanwhile, Emilia Parez is one of Sel’s current projects that is keeping her occupied at the moment.
