When Benny Blanco proposed to Selena Gomez, not only she but everyone wishing them well couldn’t help but feel joyful for the couple. However, it turned out that Selena’s co-star on Only Murders in the Building, Martin Short, wasn’t exactly thrilled by the proposal.
In a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the show’s host inquired whether the founder of Rare Beauty sought approval not just from her biological father, but also from her mentors Martin and Steve Martin, prior to proposing to her fiance.
Gomez responded, “He didn’t seem pleased, I think.” Kimmel subtly agreed, “Is that so?” Then the actress clarified, “He wasn’t exactly happy, but he did make some joking comments about it now and then.
Given their tight bond from collaborating on the project for over four years, it’s not surprising that Martin found the news particularly affecting, while Steve opted for a more professional tone. As the artist behind “Calm Down,” he shared, Steve even went as far as to send an email through his assistant to extend congratulations.
At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, the renowned trio got back together and dined at the same table. That evening, Gomez – who was nominated twice – celebrated their reunion by posting a sweet selfie of them from the event on social media.
