After the movie was premiered, just like every time, folks didn’t hesitate to express their thoughts online. Interestingly, a particular segment of viewers has voiced criticism about Selena Gomez’s fluency in Spanish within the film.

In a 2018 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the singer expressed her wish to become more proficient in Spanish, confessing that she often gazed at herself in the mirror daily, longing for greater command of the language. By 2021, she shared with the LA Times that she had been fluent in Spanish until she was 7, but as her career progressed, it consumed much of her life.
Gomez further clarified that from then on, her work took up most of her time. Yet, she admitted that drawing upon her cultural roots might provide solace and healing to others.
