Martin Short details when he cut Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s wedding cake before the couple
On a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 75-year-old comedian and actor shared a story about an incident that happened at a wedding reception. He remembered sitting with Paul Rudd and his wife, Julie, when he accidentally cut into the cake with a nearby knife.
Thinking a slice of wedding cake would be offered to each guest, he tried to give a piece to Steve Martin as he was leaving, which caused a commotion. As he recalled, people shouted, “Steve, you can’t leave!” and insisted he have some cake. He ended up cutting a piece from both sides, and even attempted to smooth it out with a fork, but that just made things worse.
Once he realized the couple was meant to cut the wedding cake, he prepared to leave and asked everyone to keep it a secret from the bride, Selena Gomez, for at least a month. He explained that to fix the situation, they contacted the wedding coordinator, who then brought out the chef.
He explained that the surgery went well initially, describing it as impressive, but needed some follow-up adjustments. Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco haven’t publicly discussed what happened.
