Sebastian Stan deeply appreciates his buddy and fellow actor Anthony Mackie in their projects together, yet finds it hard to express this sentiment openly! In an interview with Variety, the Golden Globe recipient shared that despite being engrossed in filming the upcoming Marvel film “Thunderbolts,” he genuinely missed having Mackie on set.
He mentioned that this past year was remarkably peaceful since he hadn’t caught up with his friend for a while, referring to Anthony Mackie. However, he shared, there’s a part of him that misses Anthony Mackie almost every day, which isn’t something he enjoys admitting.
For the first time, the pair collaborated on the 2014 movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and they continued their roles in the 2021 Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In the Marvel universe, Stan embodied Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, while Mackie portrayed Sam Wilson, better known as The Falcon.
In the thrilling conclusion of the series, it fell to me – yes, yours truly – to step into the iconic role of Captain America following the momentous events of Avengers: Endgame. And when I was grilled about a potential reunion with my fellow hero in the hotly anticipated project, Captain America: Brave New World, ol’ Cap himself, Stan, remained cryptically coy, neither confirming nor denying our return. The anticipation is killing me!
Regarding Thunderbolts, Stan asserted that they’re an unconventional team, and he believes audiences will find them intriguing because they’re a group of supervillains who have been brought together for a mission assigned by the government.
In this revised version, Florence Pugh’s character, Black Widow (Yelena Belova), will head a team that includes Bucky Barnes (Stan), portrayed by Sebastian Stan, as well as Alexei Shostakov (played by David Harbour) and Mel (Geraldine Viswanathan). There are also several other members joining the squad.
Thunderbolts will be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
