Sebastian Stan Swaps ‘Thunderbolts*’ Poster for ‘The New Avengers’ in Funny Marvel Promo

This morning, Marvel enthusiasts were in for a delightful surprise as Marvel Studios shared a playful video on their social media platforms. In the short clip, Sebastian Stan, famously recognized as Bucky Barnes or the Winter Soldier, was captured replacing a billboard advertisement at a bus stop.

Stan is clad entirely in black, much like how his character often appears in Marvel movies. In the video, he strolls leisurely while carrying a few posters rolled up under his arm. Upon noticing a Thunderbolts poster at a bus stop, he pauses and swaps it for one displaying The New Avengers.

*Thunderbolts is a team of supervillains turned anti-heroes in the Marvel Universe. In this context, it refers to a specific poster.

He secures it with tape at the top and bottom, making it look like an intentional switch.

As a die-hard Marvel enthusiast, here I am, excitedly sharing some fun tidbits post the release of “Thunderbolts” that stormed theaters on May 2nd, raking in an impressive $74 million during its opening weekend! Just when we thought the Marvel team had run out of tricks up their sleeves, they served us another laugh with a video featuring Florence Pugh unveiling a secret surprise hidden within a different poster.

During what appears to be the Los Angeles debut, Pugh approaches a poster for the movie. Peeling off the upper portion of the poster reveals the title “Thunderbolts,” beneath which are written the words “The New Avengers.

For some time now, fans have puzzled over the asterisk (*) at the end of the Thunderbolts comic book title. At long last, Marvel clarified that the asterisk isn’t an indication of a name change; rather, it’s a humorous allusion they’ve made.

In the movie, the name Thunderbolts actually comes from Yelena’s childhood soccer team.

In my perspective, the playful switches between Stan Lee and Trevor Pugh’s posters serve as a fun method to generate anticipation. There’s a chance these swaps could be pointing towards more significant events brewing within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
