Among the numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films on the horizon, ‘Thunderbolts’ distinguishes itself for several key points. Initially, it marks the arrival of the MCU’s interpretation of the Suicide Squad. Secondly, it promises to debut Sentry, a highly potent character from comic books, onto the silver screen.
In the upcoming film, we’ll witness a comeback of our beloved (anti) protagonists, including Red Guardian, portrayed by David Harbour, Yelena Belova, the present-day Black Widow played by Florence Pugh, and Bucky Barnes, acted by Sebastian Stan.
Previously, actors have mentioned that ‘Thunderbolts’ will present a new and distinct team compared to what we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The team dynamic in this film is expected to be unique and particularly noteworthy, with a strong emphasis on characters who are struggling with their powers being deemed useless or irrelevant.
In his latest chat with ET Online, Sebastian Stan drew an unconventional parallel between the group and a set of outcasts similar to those portrayed in ‘The Breakfast Club’. He hinted that they might not all make it through each other.
I believe this film is uniquely exceptional and doesn’t require comparison with others. In fact, among all Marvel groups, we have a distinct identity. I’m reminded of ‘The Breakfast Club’, an unlikely group of individuals who, despite their differences, didn’t let them lead to conflict.

So far, not many details have emerged about the storyline of the upcoming movie, with only the official summary providing some insights. It’s said that the film will portray the Thunderbolts team being assigned to different tasks, eventually coming to understand that they are being manipulated to confront one another.
It’s said that the film underwent a recent test viewing, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly favorable. It appears that Yelena serves as the primary protagonist, while Sentry dons an outfit reminiscent of his comics, but with a few alterations.
The viewers found the action sequences and overall film’s atmosphere, reminiscent of ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ particularly captivating. Based on the initial responses from fans to the promotional materials, this seems plausible, but we’ll have to wait for the movie premiere to confirm.
The movie will hit U.S. theaters on May 2, 2025, marking its role as the concluding production of Phase Five within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
