On January 8, 2025, the intriguing ‘What If…?’ storyline is set to debut, with a thrilling surprise in store. The first issue of What If…? Galactus Transformed Gambit, penned by Josh Trujillo, Manuel Garcia, and Ron Lim, will see the character Gambit assuming the role of Galactus’ herald.
In the latest event, renowned as the most charming and adept burglar on Earth, Gambit manages to catch Galactus, the World Devourer’s, attention. Empowered by the Cosmic Power, Gambit becomes incredibly hard to defeat.
Representatives of Galactus, these individuals are tasked with seeking out new planets that may be consumed by their cosmic overlord. In addition to serving as messengers, they possess the ability to defend themselves while carrying out Galactus’s wishes regarding planetary selection.
As a comics enthusiast, I’ve come across some iconic figures often referred to as Heralds. Among them are the Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd), Firelord, Terrax, and Nova (Richard Rider). Each of these Heralds has unique powers and traits, but they all have a common responsibility: serving Galactus and wielding a fraction of his Cosmic Power.
In the fresh “What If…?” series, it’s not just Gambit who is unexpectedly taking on a new role; Hulk, Moon Knight, Rogue, and Spider-Ghost are also set to surprise us in these positions.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled by the growing buzz surrounding Gambit within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, notably his appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine and Channing Tatum’s captivating portrayal. This renewed interest has sparked speculation among us fans about whether we might witness the debut of a new Herald in What If…? season 3.
