On Monday, March 31st, a federal court dismissed one of the sexual assault lawsuits brought against Sean “Diddy” Combs, as the accuser did not reveal her identity. This is a minor victory for Diddy before his upcoming trials.
Back in October 2024, an accuser chose to remain anonymous using the pseudonym ‘Jane Doe’ and filed a legal case against Combs within the Southern District of New York. In this lawsuit, she claimed that he had sexually assaulted her at a party which took place back in 1995, specifically alleging rape.
According to a court ruling made public by People magazine, Judge Lewis J. Liman disclosed that on March 20th, the plaintiff was instructed to submit her lawsuit under her true identity in order for the case to move forward. However, she neglected to comply with this requirement.
The plaintiff failed to file a complaint under her own name or request more time to do so. As a result, the court has chosen to dismiss the case. In response, Combs’ legal team commended the judge’s ruling in their official statement.
For several months, these plaintiffs claimed to have observed anonymous individuals submitting complaints. However, their legal representatives seemed to prioritize creating a sensational media event over evaluating the legitimate basis of those complaints.
Just as the recent claim we dismissed won’t prevail in a courtroom, neither will similar accusations against the rapper,” said his legal team. The woman who filed under the pseudonym Jane Doe is being represented by well-known Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee.
For some time, he’s been acting as a legal advocate for numerous individuals who claim to be victims of sexual assault and have chosen anonymity when filing lawsuits against the rapper. The lawyer for the music mogul recently announced that one of the multiple cases brought against Combs by Buzbee was dismissed in court.
They stated emphatically that it’s not the end,” the legal team asserted. Last September, Combs was taken into custody on numerous federal accusations, which included sex trafficking and racketeering. He has pleaded innocent to all the charges, and his trial is set to begin in May.
