Scrubs Revival is “Definitely” Happening, Says Creator Bill Lawrence; All We Know So Far

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for television trends and a heart for nostalgia, I must say that the upcoming Scrubs revival has me buzzing with excitement! Having spent countless hours immersed in the hilarious antics of the Sacred Heart Hospital crew, it’s a delight to hear that we may once again step into their world.

Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, has confirmed that there will be a reboot of this popular medical dramedy. Originally airing for nine seasons, the show depicted the lives of medical professionals and their patients at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. With 14 years having passed since its conclusion, Lawrence is now ready to dedicate his time towards producing an eagerly anticipated revival.

As a devoted fan and follower, I’m thrilled to share that the brilliant TV producer and writer, who brought us shows like Cougar Town, Ted Lasso, and Clone High, has confidently confirmed a revival is on the horizon! In fact, he anticipates immersing himself in crafting a compelling storyline for the next six months.

In a chat with LADbible, Bill Lawrence openly shared his thoughts. He confirmed that there’s a strong likelihood of reviving Scrubs, primarily because they all genuinely enjoy spending time together. He implied that this reboot could be a labor of love for the accomplished cast and team.

In addition, Lawrence has expressed the reason for a possible remake, highlighting the heroic efforts of medical professionals in a post-pandemic scenario. “Medical personnel are truly heroic to me,” he shared with the media outlet. The co-creator of “The Shrinking” is quick to act, stating that he aims to decide within the next six months or so what direction they will take for the remake, given his busy schedule. “I’m very occupied right now, in a wonderful way,” he acknowledged.

Instead of the proposed Scrubs revival taking the form of a movie, as previously suggested, the director expressed his intention to develop it as a series. Lawrence elaborated that this approach would provide an enjoyable opportunity to delve into and revisit the lives of the veteran characters, exploring where they might be now. Furthermore, the series would also focus on a young doctor navigating contemporary challenges within the profession, aiming to attract a broader audience with its narrative.

Discussions about a comeback of the popular TV show “Scrubs” have been ongoing for approximately five years now. Back in 2018, creator Bill Lawrence hinted at the possibility of a reboot, and more recently at the 2022 ATX TV Festival, he mentioned plans for a Scrubs movie that could be filmed within “a few months” according to Deadline. Lawrence emphasized the strong bond between the Scrubs cast members, expressing his enthusiasm about having Neil Flynn return to wear the jumpsuit once again. However, Flynn corrected him by stating that it’s actually only a shirt and pants he would be wearing in the potential production, as reported by Variety.

In the past, Donald Faison, known for his role as Dr. Christopher Turk in Scrubs, shared his thoughts on a potential revival while acknowledging the difficulties preventing it. “We all want it,” he said during an interview with Variety. “We’d love to work together again, but it’s really tough…you can only commit a few months to it. Everyone is busy.” Jokingly, he added that the creator Bill Lawrence would never be available again.

Starting in 2001 on NBC, the TV series “Scrubs” ran for seven seasons before shifting to ABC for its final two seasons. The show came to an end with Season 9 in 2010. This medical drama featured a cast led by Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, and Neil Flynn, among others.

All seasons of Scrubs are available to stream on Hulu.
