Once more, Glasgow is set to serve as Spider-Man’s playground on the big screen. As reported by The Herald, certain areas of the city are gearing up for filming sequences from the upcoming Marvel film Spider-Man: A Fresh Start, featuring Tom Holland and slated for release in summer 2026.
Over the last several weeks, residents of Glasgow have seen teams of professionals examining structures and thoroughfares in the downtown area. It appears they’ve been readying themselves for major sequences, even one featuring an explosion. However, rest assured, this will be executed using computer-generated imagery (CGI).
Presently, our team is engrossed in developing a digital replica of the Scottish Legal Life Assurance Building, a structure slated for virtual demolition in the movie through the application of sophisticated visual effects.
The filming process will occur at multiple spots, such as George Square, Bothwell Street, St Vincent Street, and a handful of other sites within the city. It has been reported by The Sunday Times that certain roads will be temporarily closed during August for the purpose of shooting outdoor scenes.
The local administration enthusiastically endorses the project. A representative from Glasgow City Council stated, “Although we cannot discuss specific productions, our Glasgow Film Office regularly communicates with film, television, and advertising productions of various scales who wish to shoot in the city, to determine how we can assist them.
Additionally, they mentioned that such ventures contribute positively to the local economy and foster the expansion of Glasgow’s film industry, with facilities like the Kelvin Hall studio being part of this development.
For the movie titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“, specific story details are under wraps. However, it marks a fresh beginning for Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man. In previous conversations, Holland has expressed his desire to ensure any forthcoming projects accurately represent the character he plays.
There’s been quite a bit of activity going on unseen to bring this movie into fruition. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have played crucial roles in planning the next Spider-Man tale. Following the conclusion of the previous trilogy with No Way Home, which grossed almost £2 billion globally, Marvel and Sony opted to carry on Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker in a new narrative trajectory.
I’m excited to share that I’ll be working under the guidance of Destin Daniel Cretton, the director behind Shang-Chi, as he takes the helm for our upcoming project. Filming is anticipated to commence in mid-2025. We have some fresh faces joining our team, including Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas, with Jon Bernthal reprising his role as The Punisher. It’s also great news that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are returning, although the extent of their roles hasn’t been disclosed just yet.
If you happen to be in Glasgow this summer and spot Spider-Man navigating the city by web-swinging, or observe any downtown area preparing for explosions, then you’ve got your explanation.
