Bloober Team, creators of the Silent Hill 2 remake, have unveiled the initial gameplay trailer for their self-created chilling survival game, Cronos: The New Dawn. Scheduled for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, this third-person horror adventure transports players into a universe that combines elements of sci-fi, time travel, and physical distress.
In Cronos: The New Dawn, you take on the role of a Traveler, representing a covert organization known as the Collective. The storyline spans two distinct periods: a barren, post-apocalyptic era and the decaying New Dawn district of 1980s Poland, modeled after the real-life Nowa Huta neighborhood.
The Role of the Traveler is to traverse different eras to save crucial figures, as they face impending doom in an approaching catastrophe. Obstacles on this path are the Deformed, twisted beings who represent mankind’s deepest terrors, known as the Orphans.
In the trailer, one distinctive aspect that catches the eye is the “Merge” system in the game. When players vanquish an opponent, it doesn’t stay defeated unless its body is destroyed by fire. If neglected, surviving enemies can consume the fallen, metamorphosing into more formidable and fearsome creatures with enhanced abilities. This introduces a strategic element, compelling players to think on their feet to prevent these evolutionary transformations of the monsters.
The trailer demonstrates the game’s diverse array of weapons, such as pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, and pulse guns, allowing for quick weapon swaps during intense battles. Players will traverse desolate Brutalist environments distorted by mind-bending aberrations, utilizing a spacesuit to move freely in zero gravity and a tool to alter their pathways.
The spooky ambiance is intensified by an ominous soundtrack created by composer Arkadiusz Reikowski, accompanied by the voices of the Polish-Ukrainian folk group Zazula. This fusion brings together chilling synthesizer sounds with traditional melodies.
The mysterious mood is amplified through haunting tunes composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski and sung by the Polish-Ukrainian band Zazula, resulting in a blend of eerie synth music with authentic folk tones.
Experience “Cronos: The New Dawn,” where cryptic mysteries and enigmatic characters unfold, each driven by their unique motivations. Drawing from the chilling narratives of horror legends such as Resident Evil and Dead Space, this game promises an engaging, suspenseful journey. Keep an eye out for its release – add it to your wishlist on Steam, Microsoft Store, or PlayStation for updates!
It appears that Bloober Team is gearing up to offer another spine-tingling horror adventure with Cronos: The New Dawn. The Merge mechanic seems like a unique twist that could keep players on their toes, while the time-travel narrative offers an intriguing dimension to the storyline. Given their past success with Silent Hill 2, here’s hoping they can capture the right atmosphere and tension once more.
