The upcoming “Jurassic World Rebirth” film featuring Scarlett Johansson might flop at the box office since the initial predictions for its opening weekend are the lowest among all films in the franchise, including the original “Jurassic Park” series.

What are the estimates?

Initial projections indicate that “Jurassic World Rebirth” is expected to generate around $115 million to $135 million during its first five days in theaters, considering it will debut over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

It’s puzzling what the Deadline is referring to, but they’re stating that Jurassic World Rebirth’s five-day opening grossed over $145 million compared to Jurassic World: Dominion’s three-day opening of the same amount.

Slightly behind?! Whaat? LOL.

Additionally, they liken it to the 2001 release of Jurassic Park III, earning an estimated $85 million over five days. This is roughly equivalent to more than $154 million in current dollar terms!

If the three-day earnings of “Jurassic World Rebirth” are expected to be between $115 million to $135 million, then its total earnings for five days will range from a hundred and fifteen million to one hundred and thirty-five million dollars. This would make it the first film in the “Jurassic World” series to earn less than a hundred million over three days.

Jurassic Park and Jurassic World box office opening weekend grosses

1993 saw the initial release of the blockbuster movie, “Jurassic Park”, which earned approximately $104 million in current day’s value, having initially brought in around $47 million.

1997 saw the release of “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” a film that grossed approximately $160 million or more when accounting for inflation, during its first three days, and around $180 million or more over its five-day Memorial Day weekend opening in today’s currency.

Back in the year 2001, I found myself immersed in the thrilling world of Jurassic Park III, a film that reportedly raked in an impressive $85 million at the box office – or roughly equivalent to $154 million today. This blockbuster success, unsurprisingly, marked a significant milestone that led to a fifteen-year break for this iconic franchise.

In the year 2015, the movie “Jurassic World” managed to rake in an impressive sum of more than $208 million during its first three days. When adjusted for inflation, this figure equates to over $283 million in today’s dollars.

In awe, I share that the captivating film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), generated an impressive $148 million within just three days. When adjusted for today’s value, this staggering sum translates to an astounding $189 million!

And againJurassic World: Dominion (2022) opened to $145 million.

What’s going on?

The projected low sales for “Jurassic World Rebirth” might stem from the lack of presale tickets, as a glance at my local cinemas reveals none have been purchased so far. This appears to be a recent trend, with audiences less inclined to purchase tickets in advance. Interestingly, this was also the case with “Minecraft,” yet it still became a hit due to its successful viral marketing campaign.

It appears that enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating both professional critic assessments as well as recommendations from dedicated followers, including YouTube influencers and preferred online platforms.

In a similar vein, James Gunn’s Superman, set to premiere a week after, appears to have strong sales from its Amazon screenings. Yet, on Fridays and Saturdays, cinemas remain largely unoccupied.

Just like many other films, Marvel’s Fantastic Four, set to release on July 25, is facing similar challenges with ticket sales on its opening weekend, as the number of tickets sold for both Friday and Saturday remains relatively low.
