The joke in question took place during their Christmas episode last December, during the exchange between her husband Colin Jost and his Weekend Update co-host Michael Che. This incident stirred controversy.
According to the news, Scarlett Johansson learned that Che had penned a joke involving the female anatomy. Her initial reaction was, “I wonder how offensive it could possibly be?
Afterward, she vocalized her astonishment by saying that when the Costco photo appeared on the screen, it was as if she exclaimed, “Never! Not Michael!” Regarding the humor in the scene, the Lucy actress explained, “It was incredibly vulgar, repulsive. It was truly repugnant and old-school offensive.
In the studio, with cameras capturing her immediate responses, the situation became quite intense for Johansson. She admitted later on, while working at 30 Rock all day, that she felt she might faint due to the intensity of it all.
In the dialogue with the media representative, Scarlett Johansson (from Ghost in the Shell) stated that it was “extraordinarily surprising” when the camera team anticipated her response, reminiscent of the “To Catch a Predator” exposé.
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon a month later, Colin Jost revealed that Scarlett Johansson was truly taken aback by the joke. He also mentioned that he and many others have faced repercussions since then.
