Just as I predicted last month, rumors are growing that Scarlett Johansson‘s part in The Batman – Part II could be much more significant – and complex – than first believed, with many now speculating she’ll play the villain Two-Face.
According to sources speaking with Jeff Sneider on his podcast, The Hot Mic, Gilda Dent (Mrs. Dent) might have a more significant part in the next movie than Harvey Dent does.
If that’s the case, it isn’t a stretch to think “Mrs. Dent” having a larger role would be Two-Face.
Also, recall how director Matt Reeves has said the villain hasn’t been done before.

Why Johansson’s Role Could Lead To Two‑Face
Earlier reports linked Johansson to Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife.
But Sneider’s latest info hints that her character may be more central than previously believed.
The graphic novel Batman: Earth One introduces Harvey Dent’s twin sister, Jessica Dent. She eventually becomes the mayor of Gotham City, and following a difficult personal experience, she develops a dual personality similar to the villain Two-Face.
If Reeves is taking inspiration from the Earth One comic, Johansson’s character could be Jessica Dent rather than Gilda – or a blend of the two. This would allow her to become a villain without following the usual story of Harvey Dent.

Loose adaptation of The Long Halloween?
A central part of The Long Halloween focuses on the heartbreaking transformation of Harvey Dent into the villain Two-Face.
The comic book offers a surprising revelation about Gilda Dent: it suggests she was actually the first Holiday killer. She was secretly targeting mobsters, hoping to create a safer, better life for Harvey, which makes her character much more complex and troubled.
Reeves could also be loosely adapting that part of the story for The Batman: Part II.

What This Means For The Sequel
In this situation, we can imagine Johansson’s character beginning the story with a powerful position, perhaps as someone connected to the influential Dent family in Gotham.
The sequel could center on the emotional journey of how someone becomes Two-Face, potentially even more than the story of Harvey Dent himself. Harvey might take a backseat in this film, or even appear in a later movie within Reeves’ larger story world.
As a movie fan, it suddenly made sense why they cast Scarlett Johansson – she’s a much bigger star and would definitely draw audiences in. It felt like this plot twist justified the decision to bring her on board.
The Batman – Part II Status
The next movie in the series will be in theaters on October 1, 2027, and Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne.
Filming starts soon. Also expected back are Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, with Andy Serkis as Alfred.
