Filming for the new Exorcist movie recently took place on the streets of New York City. Actress Scarlett Johansson and Chiwetel Ejiofor were seen shooting scenes together on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old actress looked relaxed and authentic with no makeup, while filming with director Mike Flanagan. The set had a serious atmosphere, with the actors performing a tense conversation near a police-taped-off building.
Johansson dressed for the chilly weather in a red shirt, jeans, and a dark coat. Ejiofor, 48, fit the serious mood of the scene with a gray overcoat and pants.

Filming turned the city block into a realistic crime scene, using many extras as police officers. This scene emphasized the story’s focus on drama and believable characters, steering clear of typical horror clichés and building suspense through the characters’ experiences.
I’m really excited about this new movie! Scarlett Johansson is playing a mom, and I’ve been following the news about it since late last year. A big part of the buzz is the young actor Jacobi Jupe, who’s playing her son – everyone’s talking about how great their on-screen chemistry is going to be.

Last November, director Mike Flanagan publicly shared his excitement about working with Scarlett. He praised her as a talented actress, noting that she consistently delivers believable and engaging performances, whether in thrillers or large-scale action movies.
Director Flanagan highlighted how thrilled he was to have the actress star in his new version of ‘The Exorcist.’ He said, “I couldn’t be happier to have her join this film.”
The movie, set to hit theaters in March 2027, features a talented cast of experienced thriller actors. Alongside the two main stars are Carla Gugino, Diane Lane, John Leguizamo, and Hamish Linklater.
Although this new movie takes place in the same world as the original 1973 film, it tells a completely separate story. It’s not a sequel to last year’s The Exorcist: Believer, but rather a new beginning with its own plot.
The original film set a very high standard for the new team making the sequel, thanks to its lasting influence on popular culture. The 1973 film, a critically acclaimed masterpiece directed by William Friedkin, won two Oscars and has earned around $441 million worldwide.
The film originally centered on Chris MacNeil, portrayed by Ellen Burstyn, and her struggle to help her daughter, Regan. Linda Blair’s chilling performance as the possessed child is still considered one of the most memorable in movie history.
Scarlett Johansson has been very active with several projects before starring in this new horror film. She recently wrapped up filming the blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, voiced a character in the animated film Transformers One, and is also working on future projects through her production company, These Pictures.
Chiwetel Ejiofor continues to work steadily, recently starring in the action film Venom: The Last Dance. He has several critically acclaimed dramas planned and will also be directing his own independent movie soon.
Director Mike Flanagan has become known as one of today’s leading horror filmmakers, especially after his popular Netflix series, The Haunting of Hill House. His work often focuses on building suspense and exploring characters’ emotions, rather than relying on cheap frights.
Blumhouse and Morgan Creek, two major film studios, are producing the movie, hoping to capitalize on the well-known ‘Exorcist’ brand. Fans are excited to see how the filmmakers will both respect the original film and create something fresh for today’s viewers.
