Scarlet Witch’s Epic Comeback: Could She Become Marvel’s Next Major Icon After the Multiverse Saga?

As a die-hard Marvel fan with over two decades of comic book lore under my belt, I can confidently say that Scarlet Witch is poised to make a triumphant return to our screens. Her complex character arc and rich history with both the Avengers and the X-Men make her the perfect candidate for the next major icon in the MCU.

Among the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) beloved figures, Scarlet Witch stands out prominently. Initially portrayed as an antagonist in the Avengers films, she later became an ally. However, her profound sorrow led her to revert back into a villain once more.

In her most recent role, she was the principal antagonist in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“. Ultimately, she chose self-sacrifice, causing a castle to crumble upon her, thereby annihilating all existing versions of the Darkhold.

While the series primarily revolves around Agatha, it subtly refocuses our gaze towards the Scarlet Witch. Introduced in the show is Billy Maximoff, a character believed to be crucial for her potential resurrection.

But why would Wanda come back? Rumor has it that the MCU’s next big storyline will be the Mutant Saga, something Kevin Feige hinted at when Deadpool & Wolverine were announced.

The time of mutants has arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and fans are eagerly anticipating the revival of the X-Men franchise as it sets the stage for this new phase. This eagerness is heightened now that Deadpool and Wolverine have successfully integrated mutants into the MCU.

There are whispers that once the Multiverse Saga concludes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might delve further into tales centered around the supernatural and magic. Potential projects could involve revamping the Blade franchise and potentially launching a Midnight Sons project. Given her prominent role in Marvel’s magical realm and intricate past with mutants, Wanda, also known as Scarlet Witch, is likely to play a significant part in these stories.

Over time, Marvel has rewritten Wanda’s family history multiple times. For a long while, it was believed that she and her brother Pietro were the offspring of Magneto and possessed mutant abilities, linking them to both the X-Men and Avengers. However, in 2014, Marvel revised this narrative, stating that Wanda and Pietro weren’t actual mutants but instead had been altered by the High Evolutionary. Consequently, Magneto was no longer established as their biological father.

In contemporary tales featuring the X-Men, characters on Krakoa have nicknamed Wanda as “The Pretender” due to accusations that she was responsible for reducing the number of mutants during the House of M storyline. Despite her efforts to mend ties with the mutant community since then, it’s worth noting that in the current comics, Wanda is not recognized or acknowledged as an official mutant.

There’s still an interesting theory that Scarlet Witch could bring mutants into the MCU with a sort of reverse “M-Day” event in which she brings mutants to the MCU instead of erasing them from existence. Wanda makes sense as the link to mutants because she hasn’t had many big mutant storylines, so this could be her way to connect with them.

Additionally, there’s a possibility that she could take on the role of the principal antagonist, given her potential involvement in orchestrating the authentic M-Day incident when mutants make their entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reports indicate that Marvel may have significant plans for Scarlet Witch, which could involve a standalone film, two additional series derived from “WandaVision”, and crucial roles in upcoming “Avengers” films and “The Mutant Saga”. Such an extensive role setup might position her as the next major character—or perhaps even a potential antagonist.
