The Marvel Universe is about to have a new Sorcerer Supreme! In January 2026, Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, will lead her own ongoing comic book series, simply titled Sorcerer Supreme. Written by Steve Orlando (known for Iceman) and illustrated by Bernard Chang (Wonder Woman), the series is a long-awaited step for the character. Artist Russell Dauterman has created a new look for Wanda, featuring the Eye of Agamotto, and will also provide variant cover art for the first five issues. These covers will each highlight a member of Wanda’s new advisory council, including her son, Wiccan. Details about the series and some of the variant covers can be found below.

Scarlet Witch is taking on the role of Sorcerer Supreme in a completely unexpected way, challenging everything people expect! But her unconventional methods could either revolutionize magic in the Marvel Universe or lead to its destruction. The ancient magical beings, the Vishanti, refuse to recognize Wanda’s claim and instead choose Agatha Harkness as their Sorcerer Supreme. After a dramatic fight with Agatha, Wanda finds herself trapped in the chaotic dimension of Limbo, where she must battle its ruler, Madelyne Pryor, to escape. While the Vishanti are focused on this conflict, dangerous new magical threats are emerging. Driven to succeed in her new role, Wanda is pushing the boundaries of her powers and redefining what it means to be Sorcerer Supreme, protecting the world in a way no one has before!
Writer Steve Orlando explained that with the Scarlet Witch, anything can happen. That’s the guiding principle for both the character and the creative team. Following the events of One World After Doom, they began to consider who would become the next Sorcerer Supreme. The key question wasn’t just who could wield the magical cloak and Eye of Agamotto, but who could hear their call for help as they faced destruction. In the Marvel Universe, Wanda Maximoff – the Scarlet Witch – is uniquely attuned to such pleas.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been following Wanda’s story, and wow, it’s been a rollercoaster! She’s gone through so much – losing control, nearly wiping out the Avengers, that whole X-gene thing, finding out Magneto wasn’t her dad, and finally finding her kids again. It’s been intense, to say the least. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange has had a rough time too, losing his Sorcerer Supreme title to a bunch of different people, including Doctor Voodoo, Loki, and now, Doctor Doom! It makes you wonder, can Wanda actually keep her position longer than villains like Doom and Loki did? I’m really curious to see where her comic book storyline goes, and if it’ll give us hints about what’s next for her in the MCU. I’m definitely hooked and eager to find out!
