Saturday Night Live Season 50: Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan, Jean Smart Among Stars Added To Lineup

As a longtime devoted SNL fan who has watched countless sketches, episodes, and even some behind-the-scenes bloopers, I am positively ecstatic about the lineup for this upcoming 50th season! The star-studded cast is nothing short of phenomenal, with a mix of newcomers and returning favorites that promises to deliver an unparalleled viewing experience.

On Thursdays announcement, Saturday Night Live is preparing for its 50th season debuting on September 28 with a big-name ensemble. The network, NBC, has disclosed the hosts and musicians for the opening five episodes of their late-night production, showcasing both fresh and familiar faces.

The opening event will star Emmy-winning actress Jean Smart and country musician Jelly Roll, who are set to make their first appearances as hosts and musical guests on Saturday Night Live (SNL). Smart took to Instagram to express her delight, describing it as a long-awaited dream come true. Jelly Roll also shared his elation in a post, stating that he would be shedding tears for a while… Bringing healing music to my all-time favorite show. God is Great.

On October 5th, comedian Nate Bargatze is set to host an episode of SNL, with Coldplay serving as the musical guest. This marks Bargatze’s second stint as host, having made his debut in October 2023. Coldplay will make their eighth appearance on SNL, further solidifying their enduring connection with the show.

Ariana Grande is scheduled to host the episode airing on October 12th. Previously, she has graced SNL as a musical performer, but this time she’ll also be the show’s host for the second occasion. Music icon Stevie Nicks will take the stage during the broadcast. On her social media platform (previously known as Twitter), Nicks expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “See you on October 12th @nbcsnl.

Actor Michael Keaton, famous for his work in Beetlejuice and Batman, is set to host the upcoming Saturday Night Live episode on October 19. This will mark his fourth time appearing on the show. Billie Eilish has been announced as the musical guest for that particular episode. On Instagram, Eilish expressed her eagerness about the appearance, saying “Coming back 😉 see you on October 19th SNL.

For the initial episodes of this season, it has been officially confirmed that John Mulaney will host the November 2nd episode and Chappell Roan will make her SNL debut as the musical guest. Mulaney, a previous SNL cast member, is back for his sixth hosting stint. In a joking manner on X, he stated, “I’m just hearing about this now.” Chappell Roan, an up-and-coming pop sensation, is anticipated to bring fresh excitement to the show with her debut performance.

Apart from revealing the lineup of hosts and musicians for the upcoming season, SNL has also unveiled some cast adjustments. Three fresh comedians, Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline, have joined the cast. On the other hand, Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker have been moved up to the main cast after spending two years as featured players.

On the other hand, the upcoming season bids farewell to a few cast members. Specifically, Punkie Johnson, Chloe Troast, and Molly Kearney will no longer be part of it. Punkie Johnson made her departure official on August 1 via Instagram, assuring there’s no bad blood, and she is leaving on amicable terms.

Additionally, Kearney made known their exit through a post on Instagram, reminiscing over two fantastic seasons and describing the journey as a long-held dream realized. Meanwhile, Troast voiced her sentiments on TikTok, acknowledging that she didn’t choose to depart and lamenting about the bittersweet reality of it.

On September 28th, airing at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC, the 50th season of Saturday Night Live kicks off, offering fresh faces, popular celebrities, and a revitalized spirit to this beloved late-night show.
