Sarah Rafferty Reveals She Had A ‘Bet’ With Suits Co-Star Gabriel Macht About Their Characters’ Future In Series: ‘I Think It Was Our First…’

As a die-hard fan of Suits and an admirer of Sarah Rafferty‘s exceptional portrayal of Donna Paulsen, I find her recent revelation about the bet she had with Gabriel Macht regarding their characters’ fate absolutely fascinating! The depth of their bond on-screen is truly reflected in their off-screen camaraderie.

Sarah Rafferty recently disclosed that she and her Suits co-star Gabriel Macht made a wager about their characters’ future on the popular legal drama series during filming. Rafferty portrayed Donna Paulsen, secretary and trusted ally to Harvey Specter, played by Macht.

Rafferty stated that she felt it unlikely for the characters Donna and Harvey from Suits to become a couple. She stressed the importance of keeping Donna as a powerful, self-reliant woman who wouldn’t be defined by her relationships with men. For additional information, continue reading below!

During a chat with People magazine, actress Sarah Rafferty shared a behind-the-scenes story from Suits: she had made a wager with co-star Gabriel Macht about their characters’ romantic future. In her conversation with the publication, Rafferty revealed that many didn’t anticipate Donna and Harvey to end up together at the series finale.

Previously, Rafferty remembered a chat with Macht prior to season 9 in which he proposed an idea about the writers possibly uniting their characters, yet she felt it was unlikely to materialize.

The actress joked, “It turns out I was wrong about the outcome of the bet. I didn’t expect it to transpire this way.” She explained that her unique take on the character Donna and her deliberate performance significantly influenced her perspective.

As a die-hard fanatic, I can’t help but spill the beans about an intriguing tidbit I stumbled upon! Rafferty disclosed to the media that during the flashback scene in season 2 after Donna was let go, there was a secret rendezvous between her and Harvey. This bit of information was shared, with Gabriel Macht and I both acknowledging that we hadn’t been treating this as an essential piece of their characters’ ‘past.’

She said there might have been a ‘flirtation’ between Donna and Harvey in the prior seasons, but she never believed they would end up together. The actress explained, “It was important to me that she remains somebody who was not pining and waiting in the wings for some guy to be ready to date her because I think it was really important that she was busy. She was fine [without a man].”

Sarah Rafferty expressed that she and her fellow actor initially felt ‘nervous’ about the possibility of fan criticism over their characters becoming a couple, as they’ve learned from eight to nine seasons of the show that “we’ve had Twitter, Instagram, and social media, so we understand feedback” by this point.

The actress shared with the media that she felt deeply committed to fulfilling her fans’ expectations and making them happy, which increased the stress surrounding the storyline. Yet, she thought it was the perfect time for Harvey’s character to grow romantically involved with Donna, as he had progressed to a point where he could be a suitable partner for her, according to her statement.
