Sarah Jessica Parker’s Shocking Reading Challenge: 170 Books for the Booker Prize!

Sarah Jessica Parker, well-known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the beloved show Sex and the City, has been immersing herself in two books each day as part of her preparation to serve as a judge for the Booker Prize. Furthermore, the star behind And Just Like That… is also connected with her own publishing imprint, SJP Lit, under Zando.

During the PEN America Literary Gala, Parker mentioned to Page Six that as a judge for the esteemed literary award, she’s managing to read approximately two books daily. She described this task as equally exciting and exhausting.

As a diligent reader, I can’t help but acknowledge the magnitude of the task at hand when faced with the roughly 170 books assigned to us judges every year. Maintaining pace and focus throughout this reading marathon is no small feat.

She remarked that the sheer amount of books she reads is challenging to express, almost overwhelming. It’s truly remarkable to have such an opportunity to read so many books in a single month.

Now that her obligations related to shooting have ended, Parker mentioned that she has the entirety of her schedule open to immerse herself completely in reading, from dawn till dusk. This dedication to books is hardly unexpected, given that it was fostered in her during childhood by her mother, who consistently made reading a part of their daily routine at home. Those familiar with the actress may have noticed her frequent reading activities on Instagram.

It turns out that Parker’s path to the Booker panel was set in motion years ago, when she made a casual comment on an Instagram video about the judging process. Specifically, she wrote “I’ll give it a go!” under a post by a literary fundraiser. Now, this offhand remark has led her back to where it all began.

Instead of walking on red carpets, Sarah Jessica Parker is now seated alongside authors, reporters, and influential personalities, to select the top novel of the year for the prestigious Booker Prize.
