The 1984 film *Silent Night, Deadly Night* sparked a lot of outrage when it was first released. Coming out during the peak of the slasher movie craze, it seemed like a terrifying take on Santa Claus that could become a horror classic. However, when the movie was advertised to children on family-friendly television, parents’ groups protested strongly. The distributor quickly pulled the film from theaters after just one week to avoid negative publicity, ensuring a peaceful Christmas for families.
It’s wild to think that the original *Silent Night, Deadly Night* actually made more money at the box office than *A Nightmare on Elm Street* when they both came out in 1984! I guess getting a killer Santa out of theaters really helped Freddy Krueger. And get this – this new one is actually the *second* remake! The first one came out just thirteen years ago, in 2012. I’m pretty sure that has to be some kind of record for the fastest turnaround between horror reboots. Anyway, the new *Silent Night, Deadly Night* is hitting theaters on December 12th, so get ready!
