Samantha Cope Refutes Ex Joey Lawrence’s ‘False Accusations’ That She Didn’t Accept His Daughters From Previous Marriage: ‘The Truth Is Know To Me, To Joey, And To God’

As a seasoned observer of human dynamics and relationships, I find myself drawn to the intricacies of Samantha Cope and Joey Lawrence’s marital journey. Having had the privilege of witnessing numerous tales of love and loss, I must say that their story is as complex as it is heartbreaking.

Samantha Cope has spoken out about the dissolution of her marriage, following Joey Lawrence’s Instagram post on August 28th where he claimed one cause was Cope not welcoming his two daughters, Charleston (age 18) and Liberty (age 14), whom he shares with his ex-wife Chandie Yawn-Nelson, into their family unit.

37-year-old Cope expressed her concern over unfounded allegations, saying they deeply distress her as a mother who cherishes her daughter more than anything. She told People this shortly after Lawrence’s social media comment. In her statement to the magazine, she added that she is convinced that the truth is clear to her, Joey, and God.

In my pursuit of well-being, I’ve decided to channel my energies towards healing, nurturing my precious daughter, and navigating the challenging journey of dealing with the dissolution of my marriage and family. This is the path I have chosen for myself at this moment.

Lawrence additionally asserted in his initial statement that their brief marriage was filled with challenges since its inception, and these problems grew to be unmanageable as time passed. Furthermore, the actor playing Frankie in Meets Jack stated emphatically that he did not engage in a physical relationship with co-star Melina Alves during the filming of Socked In for Christmas.

On August 13th, Cope initiated divorce proceedings against Lawrence, two months following the reported separation date of June 7th. According to People, irreconcilable differences were cited as the cause for their breakup. In her filing, she asked the court to waive any entitlements to spousal support for both parties. Moreover, she petitioned for full physical custody of their daughter, with visitation rights for Lawrence at her discretion.

In the midst of their divorce, a source has shared with People that the actor’s bond with his family has seen significant improvement, and his co-parenting relationship with Yawn-Nelson is healing as well. The source pointed out that relations between Joey, his former spouse, and their daughters have grown stronger since his separation from Cope. Despite trying to stay calm, the actor reportedly feels a mix of sadness and disillusionment over how his relationship and eventual divorce with Cope unfolded.

In May of 2022, Lawrence and Cope exchanged vows at Temecula Creek Inn, located in Temecula, California. They first crossed paths while working together on Lifetime’s “My Husband’s Secret Brother” in 2021, a production helmed by Lawrence’s brother Andrew. In an interview with People magazine in 2023, the actor revealed that Cope was the first person he had ever dated within a professional setting. Interestingly, in the movie, Lawrence portrayed Cope’s character’s killer.
