As someone who’s been following Marvel’s cinematic universe for over two decades, I must say that the upcoming season of “What If…?” is truly a dream come true! The first season was a delightful exploration of alternate realities, and it’s heartening to see it return for not one, but two more seasons.
In the year 2021, we witnessed the debut of What If…?. This series delved into the concept of alternate realities across the multiverse, speculating about how the tales of Marvel characters might have unfolded differently if significant events took a different course. The entire scenario was overseen by Uatu the Watcher.
The show garnered tremendous success, resulting in the production of additional two installments. The grand finale is slated for release on December 22, 2024. Recently, Marvel shared a sneak peek from an exclusive episode, and here’s a link to it: [clip link]
The short clip shows Sam Wilson/Captain America in a mech suit alongside Monica Rambeau. They watch as a group of mutated monsters, resembling the Hulk in size and build, approaches.
The setting, complete with colossal robots and enormous beasts, seems reminiscent of the cinematic universe depicted in Pacific Rim. This vibe is probably drawn from the anime-inspired episode titled “Go-Avengers: Heroes of the Gamma War“, where the Avengers engage Mega-Hulk like monsters using their powerful mechs.
This particular episode features a group of characters such as Sam Wilson (also known as Captain America), Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), Sergei Kirov (Red Guardian), Xu Shang-Chi, Monica Rambeau, Marc Spector (Moon Knight), Shuri, and Melina Vostokoff.
Additionally, enthusiasts should be thrilled to anticipate other captivating installments. Among these are episodes spotlighting Red Guardian, involving Bucky Barnes, Bill Foster, and Ranger Morales. Another episode will center around Agatha Harkness, featuring a lively musical performance. Lastly, there’s a Western-style collaboration between Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop in the works.
