Sam Raimi is returning to horror with the upcoming survival thriller titled “Send Help“. This movie, produced by 20th Century Studios, is slated for release in theaters on January 30, 2026, marking his comeback to the genre following over a decade.
In this movie, you’ll find Rachel McAdams (from “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”), Dylan O’Brien (“Love and Monsters”), Dennis Haysbert, and Chris Pang. McAdams and O’Brien portray two workmates who end up on an uninhabited island following a plane accident. To survive, they need to work together despite their disagreements – but survival soon transforms into a test of intellect and perseverance.
The screenplay was penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who are well-known for their work on “Freddy vs. Jason” and the 2009 reboot of “Friday the 13th.” Notably, Raimi will not only be directing but also producing in collaboration with Zainab Azizi under the banner of Raimi Productions.
Previously known for his work in superhero movies like the Spider-Man trilogy, Raimi returned to the realm of horror with Drag Me to Hell in 2009. Most recently, he showcased his distinct horror style once again by directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The project has been in the works since summer 2024, and initial characterizations liken it to a fusion of “Misery” from 1990 and “Cast Away” from 2000. Already, production is underway, with Azizi providing sneak peeks on social media.
In early 2026, “Send Help” will debut and compete with the upcoming animated movie, “Aang: The Last Airbender,” produced by Paramount. Meanwhile, Raimi’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is now available for streaming on Disney+.
