Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan and Riley Keough in Talks for Collaboration in Kantemir Balagov’s First English Feature

Barry Keoghan and Riley Keough are set to appear in an eagerly awaited upcoming film titled “Butterfly Jam.” This movie is slated to be helmed by director Kantemir Balagov, as reported by Deadline.

Noteworthy is the fact that this upcoming project marks the Russian director’s debut in the English language, a shift from his 2019 release and Cannes breakthrough, “Beanpole.

For those interested, the upcoming Barry Keoghan film takes place within the Circassian community in New Jersey. The narrative centers around a teenager who assists his struggling diner-owning family, specializing in Circassian cuisine. As the story unfolds, the boy is depicted training for professional wrestling while helping out at the restaurant.

According to the official summary, when the teenager’s father’s plan backfires, the son is forced to step up and deal with his father’s mistakes. The story will also depict the boy encountering violence that hastens his maturation process beyond normal pace.

In the previous year, Deadline disclosed that my enthusiasm for the upcoming production would be amplified by the involvement of Alexander Rodnyansky’s AR Content, Emilia Pérez’s Pascal Caucheteux’s Why Not Productions, and Goodfellas. These esteemed partners would not only contribute their creative talents but also handle the movie’s distribution.

If you’re not already aware, Kantemir Balagov’s most recent production was titled “Beanpole.” Set in the aftermath of World War II, it follows the lives of two women in a war-torn Leningrad. This movie made its debut at Cannes Film Festival within the Un Certain Regard category in 2019. Notably, Balagov’s work was honored with the Best Director award in that section. Subsequently, “Beanpole” represented Russia as a contender for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
