Let’s compare two mighty superheroes: Saitama from the One-Punch Man series and DC Comics’ Superman, one of the most potent comic book heroes. We’re going to imagine a battle between these two formidable characters to see who would come out on top in a head-to-head showdown.
In a hypothetical battle between Superman and Saitama, it’s important to clarify some misconceptions. While it’s true that Saitama is extremely powerful within his own universe, he’s often portrayed as a comical character rather than a formidable opponent in comparative terms. If we were to evaluate their powers and abilities objectively, Superman would likely emerge victorious in this fictional encounter.
The remainder of this piece will delve deeper into the comparison between Saitama and Superman, focusing on a detailed analysis. By examining various aspects, we’ll determine which character holds more power and the reasons behind our conclusion, suggesting that Superman would emerge victorious in a head-to-head battle against Saitama.
Strength and durability
As a film enthusiast, I’m absolutely blown away by this character, Saitama. His physical strength is beyond compare – he can take down monsters, machines, and even the toughest of criminals with just one punch! No matter how powerful they are, it’s like they’re nothing compared to him. And get this, he even leaped back to Earth from the Moon using a jump that he calculated based on the moon’s weaker gravity. Incredible, right?
Saitama’s strength appears to be boundless, showing incredible prowess even against formidable foes. For instance, with a solitary strike, he could shatter a Dragon-level flail, a feat that was previously demonstrated with Mutant who held an immense power advantage over Bakuzan. Only exceptionally powerful adversaries like Boros were able to endure a basic attack from Saitama and continue the battle.
Superman’s precise power level fluctuates throughout the years, but it’s clear that his strength is immense, likely measuring up to multiple megatons. This places him as the strongest character on Earth and among some of the most powerful beings in the universe.
I’ve witnessed countless instances of Superman’s immense power. From lifting a colossal pyramid with ease, to effortlessly flying to Mars, and even moving our planet away from the sun when a formidable cosmic force was attempting to do so. Lately, he’s demonstrated an ability that leaves me in awe – exerting a pressure equivalent to the Earth’s weight (around 6 trillion tons) for five consecutive days, all while inside our planet itself, thereby cutting off his usual replenishment of solar energy.
From what’s presented here, it’s hard to predict the winner in this category, but considering Saitama’s power might be capped yet undisclosed, whereas Superman’s power appears to be truly boundless, it seems reasonable to award this round to Superman.
Points: Saitama 0, Superman 1
Speed
Saitama possesses an extraordinary, almost supernatural speed. Compared to Speed-o’-Sound Sonic, a character known for his ninja-like swiftness, Saitama appears remarkably faster. He can complete a 1500-meter race in the blink of an eye. Even Genos’ advanced tracking systems struggle to keep up with him. With his speed, he can scale buildings quickly enough to save a piece of salmon for lunch. Even Boros in Meteoric Boost mode, a formidable adversary, is slower than Saitama. His basic speed is so fast that it allows him to dodge the sword attacks of the renowned ninja Flashy Flash with ease.
Superman possesses extraordinary agility and the power to travel at astonishing velocities using only his mental strength, but he isn’t quite as swift as the Flash (Wally West). Despite this, Superman can match the speed of light and is among the swiftest beings in the cosmos. Just like others with similar speed, he leverages his velocity to execute rapid movements, responses, and actions.
With or without heightened agility, he possesses the ability to neutralize adversaries, catch flying projectiles like bullets or shrapnel mid-air, and traverse vast expanses at blinding speeds within mere seconds.
In this category, it was challenging to make a decision because it’s tough to measure the speed of characters across two different universes. Superman isn’t the fastest character in the DC Universe, but Saitama seems to be the quickest in his universe. However, we don’t know how Wally West would perform in Saitama’s universe. As a result, we’ve chosen to distribute the points evenly.
Points: Saitama 1, Superman 2
Combat skills
Because of his extraordinary physical prowess that borders on superhuman, Saitama is an exceptionally potent and risky fighter in hand-to-hand combat. Over the course of three years filled with rigorous training and battling numerous criminals, monsters, and malevolent groups, he amassed unmatched power and honed a vast array of combat abilities through real-world experience.
As a dedicated cinephile, I often find myself observing characters on screen, and Saitama’s fighting style is one that stands out. When bored, he employs unsophisticated attacks, lacking the finesse or panache that one might expect. But once he’s serious, his competence and cunningness transform him into a formidable opponent.
Saitama relies on simple fighter moves and street fighting techniques to overpower his adversaries, displaying exceptional battlefield intuition. He can easily predict the strategies of highly skilled warriors, such as Boros, a universal emperor with centuries of experience, and Garou, a martial arts prodigy. These encounters are truly captivating!
I’ve had the privilege of being tutored in the art of boxing by none other than Wildcat, and in the ways of combat by the formidable Mongul. In my encounters with Wonder Woman, I’ve not only engaged in battle but also absorbed valuable lessons from her. Additionally, Batman has shared some intricate combat techniques focusing on pressure points with me.
In essence, both Superman and Saitama were challenging to assess when it came to their mastery of martial arts. While Superman primarily showcases his physical strength in fights, he also received formal martial arts training. Conversely, Saitama appears to excel more in combat through his techniques, but the effectiveness of his martial arts abilities remains uncertain. Due to this ambiguity, we had to split the points for this category as well.
Points: Saitama 2, Superman 3
Energy projection
Saitama lacks the ability to project energy, a power that isn’t part of his limited repertoire of superpowers. Despite having other abilities, he hasn’t demonstrated any skill in energy projection and there’s no information available about this aspect of his powers.
Superman’s energy projection skills include:
- Heat Vision: This is the ability to fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it. Visually, the power is usually represented as two beams of red light shooting from his eyes. These beams can be made invisible allowing Superman to use this ability without it being detected. His vision is so powerful that he can match the heat of a star. However, this ability has been shown to drain all of his power from his internal solar battery.
- Super-Breath: The ability to create hurricane-force winds just by blowing, and freeze the target with its breath. When Superman takes a breath his lungs compress the incoming gas. When this gas expands on exhalation, the sudden increase in the volume of the gas causes its temperature to drop proportionally with the size of this expansion.
- Super-Vision: He also possesses sight capable of seeing microscopically and/or telescopically, and visual, infrared, and ultraviolet capabilities. He is able to see the full spectrum. S.T.A.R. Laboratories have not yet fully defined how Superman has been able to use his powerful senses, part of it is believed to be due to his natural physiology.
Since Saitama has nothing to offer in this category, the point goes to Superman.
Points: Saitama 2, Superman 4
Saitama vs. Superman: Who wins?
The figures are now available, yet it’s crucial to remember that this comparison extends beyond mere numbers. To truly grasp why Superman could eventually overcome Saitama, we need to delve into the fundamental aspects of their distinct worlds.
Essentially, it appears that Saitama holds the title of the strongest character within his universe, a role that seems central to the series. His battles against powerful adversaries often end in effortless victories for him.
In other words: In this universe, Saitama is known as the strongest character; this theme runs throughout the story. He encounters formidable opponents, but due to his immense power, he typically wins these conflicts with minimal struggle.
Contrarily, it’s widely debated that Superman is the most powerful superhero in Western comic book history, given his extensive versatility. Unlike Saitama, Superman has faced a broad spectrum of challenging adversaries throughout his crime-fighting tenure. His rogues gallery is vast and diverse, encompassing villains who wield various powers, making his career more multifaceted than Saitama’s.
From that perspective, Superman has significantly more years under his belt and a broader range of proven skills compared to Saitama. This superiority in experience and versatility places him ahead of the bald hero.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that although Saitama might be the strongest character in his own universe, he falls short when compared to others due to being an exaggerated superhero, essentially a novelty whose power level is difficult to compare with other universes. As a result, we had to take a different approach for this comparison, and in the end, Superman came out on top.
