Sabrina Carpenter, the host and musical performer on this week’s “Saturday Night Live,” jokingly addressed the attention she’s received for her suggestive style during her opening monologue.
She playfully mentioned wanting people to recognize her for more than just her confidence and openness, while jokingly admitting she often focuses intensely on one thing at a time.
Carpenter explained she wanted to address some misunderstandings about her public image. “People see me as just this over-the-top pop star, but there’s a lot more to who I am,” she said. “I’m not just wild and energetic; I’m also thoughtful and passionate. And I really love to read – my favorite book is actually the encyclopedia because of its size and complexity.”
During a recent discussion, she explained the reaction to the cover art for her new album, “Man’s Best Friend.” She said, “Some people were surprised by it, which I didn’t expect. It simply showed me on all fours with someone pulling my hair, but you couldn’t see who it was.”
People are misunderstanding the photo, but it’s simply a cropped version of a picture from Bowen Yang’s 50th anniversary special. It shows him helping me up after Martin Short pushed me while I was waiting in the buffet line.
It was really cool to see John Carpenter connect with the audience! He had this fun little exchange with a guy named Will from Maryland. He joked, saying something like, ‘Wow, that was…unexpected! I love talking to real people, it’s so fascinating when they’re genuine like you,’ and then playfully hinted he was enjoying the interaction. It was a lighthearted moment and showed his down-to-earth personality.
She kept the playful energy going with Kenan Thompson, who playfully ‘arrested’ her with pink handcuffs. He joked that it wasn’t for being attractive, but for pretending to be a police officer at her concerts—around 200 times! Carpenter playfully offered to do a Cameo video for a hefty $200,000, and then jokingly invited fans to find her on Venmo if they wanted one too.

The show opened with a sketch where Carpenter joined a bachelorette-themed birthday party and performed funny parodies of songs by Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. She also sang her hit song “Manchild” as part of a playful bedroom scene with choreography, and performed “Nobody’s Son” in a setting inspired by martial arts.
There was some concern when Mary J. Blige sang an expletive during the East Coast broadcast of the Super Bowl. The West Coast feed, which was delayed, appears to have muted the offensive lyric.
Carpenter’s stand-up skillfully blended comedy, music, and a playful attitude, demonstrating her ability to tackle difficult topics with humor and keep the audience captivated.
