In a recent interview on The Box Office podcast, Ryan Reynolds shared his thoughts and upcoming strategies. During their discussion, they explored the possibility of expanding the R-rated success of Deadpool and Wolverine within the Star Wars universe by pitching it to Disney.
During the podcast discussion, Reynolds shared that he proposed the idea of a mature-rated (R-rated) Star Wars franchise to Disney. He also mentioned that such a series might not require traditional, highly prominent characters (like ‘A+’ characters).
In simpler terms, Reynolds explained that there are numerous characters available for selection and he clarified that R-rated doesn’t imply vulgar content, instead it serves as a disguise for emotional depth. He often wonders why studios hesitate to take a chance with such emotionally intense content.
Reynolds expressed the notion that he doesn’t wish to appear in any potential film or television series based on this idea. Instead, he prefers contributing behind the scenes, either as a producer or scriptwriter, since, in his opinion, these roles would align better with him.
He expressed that he doesn’t necessarily wish to act in them, but rather prefers to create and script, or participate in the production process. Reynolds highlighted how these types of intellectual properties thrive on “rarity and mystery.
As a devoted fan, I echo Reynolds’ sentiments: With Disney+, we no longer encounter scarcity in terms of Star Wars content. However, there’s always the thrill of keeping fans on their toes and delivering unexpected surprises!
For those unfamiliar, the individual behind the Red notice has earlier written and produced a successful adult-rated film in collaboration with Marvel Studios and Disney, namely Deadpool and Wolverine.
In addition to the previously discussed Star Wars proposal, insiders have shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the actor is also contemplating a Deadpool film featuring an X-Men character. This hypothetical project would likely involve a team of three or four X-Men characters, with Reynolds’ Deadpool potentially taking on a supporting role.
This development occurs during the prolonged court case between Blake Lively (his wife) and Justin Baldoni. According to sources, she filed a lawsuit against her It Ends With Us co-star due to accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior. In response, Baldoni filed a lawsuit against both Lively and Reynolds for slander, as reportedly stated.
