As a die-hard fan, last year when Deadpool and Wolverine raked in over a billion dollars at the box office, it felt like a sequel for Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was practically a done deal. Yet, the question that lingered was: what would be the format? Another team-up or another solo movie? Well, during an interview with TIME Magazine, Reynolds confirmed that he thinks Wade Wilson should never become a member of the Avengers or X-Men. However, he doesn’t rule out making a cameo in an Avengers film. Intriguingly, he hinted at what’s coming next for Deadpool in the MCU by saying, “I’m currently writing something… It’s more of an ensemble, but I enjoy that he remains isolated.
Discussing the possibility of a Deadpool ensemble movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or perhaps a Disney+ short instead? Given the popularity of Deadpool, it seems unlikely that Marvel Studios would use him for anything less than a feature film. Ryan Reynolds hasn’t hinted at any specific cast members yet, but there’s speculation that he might be reviving the X-Force concept again. After all, Wade Wilson (Deadpool) assembled an X-Force team in Deadpool 2, albeit one with a brief lifespan. If this team is being revisited, it could include Laura/X-23, given her history with X-Force in the comics. The idea of Wade and possibly Logan leading a proactive mutant hero team seems natural to write.
Reynolds might be assembling characters from the Void, as seen in Deadpool and Wolverine, such as Gambit, Elektra, and Blade, for the MCU again. However, would it create the same impact a second time? Marvel Comics does have a team called the Exiles, which are heroes from different timelines. This could be an interesting concept for a movie, especially if they introduce some unexpected characters. The way Deadpool makes his comeback to the MCU is yet to be seen, but it won’t be long before the profane mercenary embarks on another action-packed journey. We can only hope that Dogpool accompanies him on this new adventure.
